According to the press release for their new single, Olympia, WA's Pigeon Pit are "country/punk maximalists." Their latest single fits that description, but not in the way I would have expected. "Bronco" has a more mainstream sound that I assumed it would. It easily fits into the country punk category, but in kind of a weirdo way. It starts off in a more acoustic, singer-songwriter way. As it goes on, the song both evolves and devolves into a cacophonous mess, adding noise and extra elements. It's filled with gang vocals and harmonies as it gets noisier... but it also gets more and more catchy. "Bronco" is a fun country punk single packed with plenty of edge and noise, while still being melodic enough for more mainstream listeners.
Frontwoman Lomes Oleander says of the new single:
“Bronco is about being psycho. The whole album, but especially 'Bronco,' is about being a crazy bitch, about being dragged all over the place by the things that haunt us, by all the pieces of us we can’t control.”
