Photo via Facebook When I saw that STL GLD were teaming up with Zola Simone on their latest single, I assumed the song would be one of their more pop-focused efforts. "Dances with Wolves" is anything but. It might be one of the Boston hip hop group's hardest songs to date. It's just as much punk as it is hip hop, and has a focused and hypnotic quality. There are also some elements of electro-clash here. STL GLD have always been a group that constantly evolves and pushes the boundaries of their genre, and "Dances with Wolves" continues that. We were already looking forward to the release of Good Music for Bad Kids  next month, but now we simply can't wait. You can listen to "Dances with Wolves" below. The Boston hip hop group have their own sound going on that combines classic hip hop, rock, punk, and a newer blend of hip hop for their own style. Now they're back with a new single, and holy shit, this one is great. This is how pure hip hop should sound in 2025. It's roots are in the golden age of hip hop, but moving forward into the future. It's both stripped down with a ton going on in the song. Plus, the chorus of "Oooh, it ain't hard to tell" is going to be a blast to shout along to at their next live shows. "80's Babies" is smooth as hell with a rough edge to it that keeps the whole thing interesting. Get ready to have your mind blown by STL GLD yet again. We're unabashed fans of STL GLD here at If It's Too Loud..., so we're thrilled that the Boston hip hop band has a new album coming out next month. "Resisting" is the first single off the upcoming album, and if you know anything about STL GLD you can guess exactly what this song is about. Musically "Resisting" is a new direction for the band. While they've always been pure hip hop, they've always peppered their sound with punk and metal. This one stays hip hop and also adds in some post-punk and electro clash. This one is not the party jam of 2018's "Donut Shop." "Resisting" is drenched in dread and anxiety, in the best possible way. You can watch the video for "Resisting" below. In a world where STL GLD's 2017 song "I Can't Breathe" sounds like it was written last week, we've been desperately waiting to hear something new from the Boston hip hop group. Last week they came back with "My Block," and we are definitely not disappointed. "My Block" is a slow burn of a song that seethes with intensity. If you were to just listen to it in the background, it might sound fairly chill, but if you focus on the song at all, you'll be sucked in by just how intense it is. And that's before the gang chorus kicks in. It has an almost dirty feel to it, despite how slick the production is. Let's just hope this is the beginning of a flurry of new music from STL GLD.
