Artist : Yaeji Album : With a Hammer Quick Thoughts : Yaeji, in her short career, is known for her pretty awesome electronic music, and this is a stellar effort across the board. The songs are pretty memorable and provide a great electronic record when we haven't gotten a lot of solid stuff lately. In a busy week, it's worth the time. Songs of Note : "For Granted," "Michin" Artist : Daughter Album : Stereo Mind Game Quick Thoughts : I don't recall where I first tripped up on Daughter, but Stereo Mind Game is one of those sneaky albums that grabs you when you least expect it. Sometimes shoegazey, sometimes alt-rock, it's a gorgeous record with a ton to love from front to back. In a week where it could quite easily get overshadowed, make some time for it. Songs of Note : "Party," "Swim Back" Artist : Blondshell Album : Blondshell Quick Thoughts : I've been addicted to "Kiss City" for a few weeks now, an...

Basic Bitches - "Make Art"

Photo by Mike Vorrasi Last month we got super into Basic Bitches' L7 meets The White Stripes single "Start the World." This month the New York band are back with "Make Art." This new single continues with that sound, especially having L7's vocal growl and Meg White's raw but perfect drumming. The new single adds a certain funky style that mimics a more punk version of The B-52's. As hard as "Make Art" rocks, particularly on the chorus of "Make Art! Make Art! Make Art!," it's also the kind of song you're going to want to dance to. Basic Bitches have made a ridiculously fun song about making art just because you enjoy it, and without worrying if it's popular or makes money. And who can argue that message? You can watch the video for "Make Art" below. It Doesn't Matter if it's Cool is due out April 7. For more on Basic Bitches, check out the band's website . Upcoming tour dates are below the video. Basic Bitches - "Start the World"

Photo by Mike Vorrasi While there are a ton of pandemic/quarantine related songs, most don't seem to be about anticipating getting out of quarantine and for life to start up again. New York's Basic Bitches have released one of those rare songs. The duo have released "Start the World," a riot grrrl track heavily infused with blues and maybe even some metal poking out. The track has an interesting L7 meets The White Stripes sound to it, which we are completely here for. "Start the World" is an absolute celebration of joy and life, which you wouldn't necessarily expect given the genres. Something tells me we'll be following Basic Bitches around here very closely. You can watch the Grey Gardens inspired video for "Start the World" below. It Doesn't Matter if It's Cool  is due out April 7 and can be pre-ordered through Bandcamp .
