The Red Pears - "See What I Mean"

Image
Photo by Robert Nunez We've been impatiently waiting to hear new music from The Red Pears ever since we first heard "Didn't Realize" back in March. Friday will see the El Monte, CA trio release a new album, but they have a new single out now for those of us that can't wait that long. "See What I Mean" sounds like how The Strokes sounded twenty years ago, just slightly updated and with a slight Latin flavor. As soon as the opening guitar chords hit, you'll know exactly what you're in store for. It might feel a little strange that we're now in a revival for the garage rock revival of the early 00's, but once you hear "See What I Mean" you'll be thrilled that we are. Henry Vargas (vocals/guitar) says of the band's new single: " This song was first created alone in my room, with probably one of my favorite riffs on the album .  Lyric-wise, this song is very straightforward: mistakes are/were made and you can’t always be...

The Red Pears - "Didn't Realize"

Photo by Robert Nunez Hailing from El Monte, CA, The Red Pairs have one of the freshest takes on the 2000's indie rock/garage rock revival revival. The trio's latest single, "Didn't Realize," takes the sound of that era (particularly The Strokes) and injects the Latin-tinged sound of their childhoods. It's an amazing mixing of sounds, and is just enough of a change to refresh a twenty year old sound and make it fresh again. "Didn't Realize" is the kind of song that only gets more exciting after repeated listens, so if it only kinda sorta works for you after the first listen, you're going to want to give it another shot.  Henry Vargas (vocals/guitar) says of his band's newest single: “The lyrics talk about a time when I was trying my best to make things work but no matter what I did nothing seemed to change their mind or fix things. But after time went by I realized that things were actually better, or that some things were clearer to me n...

The Sextones - "Better Late Than Never"

Photo by Calvin Hobson There's been a resurgence of late 60's/early 70's style soul lately, and our latest discovery is The Sextones. The Nevada based quartet have a new single out, "Better Late Than Never." As with most neo-soul out these days, The Sextones wear their twentieth century influences proudly while still moving the genre into the modern day. The song doesn't sound like it was made fifty years ago, but sounds like it was made today and heavily influenced by music made back then. It's a smooth soul jam, and you may need to check for your pulse if you can't get into this. Bassist Alexander Korostinsky says of their upcoming album: “The ability to be vulnerable when writing your music is an important ingredient for any record.  You can tell when an artist is being genuine and for a long time, we felt a little insincere with what we were doing. After working with Kelly, we started noticing that the music we were all making now was truly and fin...
