Peter One - "Cherie Vico"

Peter One, the sixty seven year old born in Cote d'Ivoire current Nashville resident musician that recently returned to music in his retirement, has just released a brand new single. "Cherie Vico" (sung in both French and English) leans more into his afropop roots while keeping a foot squarely in the country/folk world. It has a base of 70's style AM radio country/folk with afropop drums, giving the song a much more jubilant feel than you typically get in a song this chill. It's a captivating and fun song that is sure to engage just about any listener with a heart.

Peter One says of his new single:

“‘Cherie Vico’ is a love story. It's a song that was inspired by one of my cousins. He just sang it acapella, and I loved the song and decided to put music to it and add the English part. Everything is in my native tongue and the English part is my own creation. Vico is actually short for Victorine. Cherie means 'my dear.' My dear Victorine, my dear Vico. Come back.”

You can listen to "Cherie Vico" below. Come Back to Me is set for release May 5 on Verve Forecast, and can be pre-ordered here. For more on Peter One, check out the artist's website.

Peter One featuring Allison Russell - "Birds Go Die Out of Sight (Don't Go Home)"

Peter One is originally from Cote d'Ivoire where we was in a folk duo with Jess Sah Bi in the 1980's. In the 90's, he moved to the US due to political unrest in his country and to pursue his musical career here. Unfortunately, things didn't work out and he ended up taking a job as a nurse and now lives in Tennessee. After working as a nurse for thirty years, he's retired and is starting up his musical career again.

The sixty-seven year old's new single, "Birds Go Die Out of Sight (Don't Go Home)," is a delightfully intriguing mix of Afro-pop and 60's and 70's country folk. It's a cheerful and upbeat song that has that perfect timeless quality that could have come out any time during the last six decades. If you enjoy any type of folk or country, Peter One is going to be completely irresistible. It's the kind of song that is a pure delight and is perfect for imagining warmer days as those of us in New England recover from this past weekend's snowstorm. Plus, the song also features Allison Russell on backing vocals just to make it that much more delightful.

You can listen to "Birds Don't Die Out of Sight (Don't Go Home)" below. Come Back to Me is due out May 5 on Verve Records. The album can be pre-ordered here. For more on Peter One, check out the artist's website. Upcoming tour dates are below the song.
