Computerwife - "Lexapro"

I'm not quite sure what I expected from Computerwife as an artist, but this definitely wasn't it. Computerwife is the musical project of New York City's Addie Warncke, and according to the press release for "Lexapro" some of her inspirations include Coney Island, My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. After listening to "Lexapro," Warncke is leaning into the My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Youth influences. The single is this slow, fuzzed out, and sludgy as hell song that just kind of plods around. Even the vocal effects used feel sound like something Sonic Youth played around with in the 80's. It's kind of a mess of a song, but in a truly fabulous way.

You can listen to "Lexapro" below. Computerwife's self-titled debut album is due out August 4 on Danger Collective Records. For more on Computerwife, check out the artist on Instagram and Twitter.

Lauren Early - "Tomorrow"

Lauren Early spent a few years touring in Surf Curse and Girlpool, but has recently gone solo. Her latest single, "Tomorrow," combines early 90's DIY indie rock bedroom lo-fi recordings with a more modern indie rock/pop sound. It takes that lo-fi spirit but updates it with better recordings that still sound intimate and noisy. "Tomorrow" does have a more fleshed out sound than this style did thirty years ago. It's an interesting mix of Sentridoh and artists like Phoebe Bridgers and Colleen Green. The song gets messy at times, but only in the best possible way. Early has established an interesting sound, and we can't wait to keep hearing what she's up to.

Lauren Early says of her new song:

“It’s very haunted and very optimistic, which I think encapsulates the album as a whole. I began writing this song at the start of my obsession with The Smashing Pumpkins. For better or worse, I really identify with Billy Corgan’s approach to music. He has such a distinct vision and toils away obsessively to see it through. That’s me and this song: A million guitars. Real cello, fake cello. Me toiling away. In hindsight, I think I wanted to make a song as good as ‘Today’ and ended up writing a song called ‘Tomorrow’ (lol).”

Lauren Early - "Good Girl Bad Boy"

You might know Lauren Early from her time touring in Girlpool and Surf Curse, but now the Los Angeles based artist is set to release her debut solo album. Her first single, "Good Girl Bad Boy," has this great slightly polished DIY sound to it. It reminds me of early Colleen Green, but in a more produced version. Early has a great slacker drone to her vocals that isn't usually heard outside of Gen-X, and the music has a more modern indie rock with a side of pop sound. It's a fun song that is going to suck a lot of our readers in, and will have you wanting to dive into the world of Lauren Early ASAP.

Lauren Early says of her new single:

"'Good Girl Bad Boy' was a total breakthrough for me. Its first iteration was a sad country song. Then one day I was meditating on this simple pop-punk guitar part, and the old country song poured out into this version, and it just felt like...a hit. Lyrically, it’s about the pain of love. The term 'good girl bad boy' is a good description of me. I think I’m a very empathetic and considerate person, and at the same time I’m very assertive, impatient, and fiery. It’s a weird and sometimes difficult pair to balance. The phrase is more emotional and not necessarily supposed to be, like, a queer anthem, but I like that it accidentally is that too."

Red Ribbon - "High"

Red Ribbon, the musical project of Seattle to Los Angeles musician Emma Danner, has crafted this perfect song that encapsulates indie rock, pop, and Americana. "High" is this kinda ramblin' song filled with acoustic guitar and crashing cymbals. Normally that combination wouldn't work at all, but Danner pulls it off. That's one of the truly fascinating thing about "High." It meanders through multiple genres without changing its feel. At times it feels more indie rock, at others more Americana, and others like it might be heading towards pop. And sometimes all three at the same time. It's a song you're not going to be able to not pay attention to. It will quietly demand your undivided focus.

Emma Danner says of the new song:

It could just be about drugs, or it can be about whatever in your life makes you highI lost my first love to an opioid addiction and I was a user of opiates in my youth. My whole life I’ve been trying to figure out what one can do to expand their consciousness outside of drug use. There’s a little bit of fear around feeling good in this song as well. If I follow this thread of happiness, will I lose my way?

You can watch the video for "High" below. Planet X is due out June 11 on Danger Collective Records. You can pre-order a copy here. For more on Red Ribbon, check out the artist on Facebook and Twitter.

Red Ribbon - "Document (Alternate Version)"

Red Ribbon is the project of Seattle based musician Emma Danner. Utilizing a revolving group of musicians, Red Ribbon has released a new single. "Document (Alternate Version)," has some serious 90's vibes. You'll hear a lot of what is now called dream pop in the song, but the guitars have too much of a 90's crunch to them for that. It's a slow plod of a song that burns into a sludge fest at times without ever crossing into discordance.

Emma Danner explains the meaning behind the song:

So much of history is erased and what we're left with is the veneration of figures who purchased their historical memory through acts of power, money and violence. It's strange then that as individuals we still privately record our own experiences through photographs or written accountsWhat is the purpose of documenting oneself in a world where history is distorted? Why do we create these records when in all likelihood they will evaporate into nothingness? What is recorded is rarely what happened."

You can listen to "Document (Alternate Version)" below. The single is now available on Danger Collective Records and is available via Bandcamp. For more on Red Ribbon, check out the artist's Facebook.
