Sniffany & The Nits - "Chicken Liver"

Photo by Maria Cecilia London punks Sniffany & The Nits are definitely a punk band, but they don't sound too much like classic punk. Their latest single, "Chicken Liver," is a just under two and a half minute burst of noise that will barrel straight over you if you're unprepared. It's not an aggressively fast song. If anything, "Chicken Liver" is just faster than mid tempo. But between Sister Sniffany's manic vocals, buzzsaw yet at times beautiful guitars, and crashing cymbals, the song feels much faster and out of control than it actually is. This is that next generation noise punk that is rooted firmly in noise and discordant as hell, but still has some odd pop hooks directing things. Sniffany & The Nits - "Piggy Bank"

Photo by Maria Cecilia Besides having one of the band names of the year, Sniffany & The Nits also have one of the best press release opening lines I've ever read: "Sniffany & The Nits are a deranged, genuinely troubling punk band from London featuring members of Joanna Gruesome, Ex-Void & The Tubs." If you're intrigued, you're going to love "Piggy Bank." The new song is a lightning fast punk song that starts at full speed to the point that the members seem winded by the end of the two minutes it takes up. Despite how fast and noisy the song is, it's unmistakably catchy. It certainly won't seem that way when it starts, but by the end of the first minute it will almost sound like pop without turning down the intensity at all. That might be because of singer Sister Sniffany. While she'll make you think of the punk greats that came before her, she has a sound all her own.  You can listen to "Piggy Bank" below.
