The Empty Threats - "want someone"

Image
Photo by Nash Blight Queer Kaurna land/Adelaide, Australia post-punk band have a new single out, and buckle up for this one. "want someone" is a powerhouse of a song that slams into you with a wall of noise that lasts throughout almost the entire song. As soon as the opening guitar riff kicks in, you'll know if this song is for you. There is a darkness throughout, and the song straight up rocks. It's quite heavy for the genre, but there's something oddly accessible about it. Not to say that "want someone" is ready for a mainstream Sabrina Carpenter listening crowd, but some people might end up being surprised by how much they like this one. It's disjointed and discordant, with something that will pull you in, whether you want it to or not. You can listen to "want someone" below. happy birthday is due out September 12 on Anti-Dismal and Short Corner Records, and is available for pre-order here . The Empty Threats - "bus stop"

Image
Photo by Nash Blight The Empty Threats are a bit of an enigma. The Kaurna land/Adelaide band's latest single, "bus stop," fits firmly in the category of indie rock. There are even Sonic Youth style guitars all over the song to back this up. It's noisy and aggressive and absolutely delightful for those of us that love that sort of thing. But the vocals betray that sound as the song goes on. The vocalists swing wildly between more of an indie folk style and a 50's crooner. At times the song is quite lovely, and at others it's pure dissonance and anxiety inducing. "bus stop" is a wild thrill ride of a song that we're fully on board for. Strap yourself in and enjoy the beauty and chaos of The Empty Threats. Stu Patterson says of their latest single: “The song is an ode to the sleepless nights where one's emotions blurs between the lines of sanity and insanity." You can watch the video for "bus stop" below. happy birthday is due out...

The Empty Threats - "Evil Eye"

Image
Photo by Emereld The Empty Threats are a queer post-punk band based out of Adelaide, Australia. Their latest single, "Evil Eye," is an absolutely epic post-punk power ballad. The song is more along the lines of a band like Interpol than more classic artists of the genre, but there is an odd sense of menace to "Evil Eye" that you don't truly get with Interpol. Stu Patterson's vocals are more crooning than you'd typically expect with any form of punk, but that somehow adds to the edge of the song. It's an oddly charming song that has a chorus that is sure to embed itself into your mind for days to come. You can listen to "Evil Eye" below. Monster Truck Mondays is due out June 22 on P.A.K Records, and can be pre-ordered here . For more on The Empty Threats, check out the band on Facebook and Instagram .
