Brand New Lungs - "Stand Alone"

Montreal's Brand New Lungs have released a single that is sure to arouse nostalgia for a certain section of our listeners. "Stand Alone" is a loud and aggressive punk rock song that is catchy and sincere with one of the most anthemic choruses out there. In other words, "Stand Alone" is from that period of emo between the "emotional hardcore" of Dischord and the mainstream more pop punk sound of the late 90's. Brand New Lungs are much more Sunny Day Real Estate and Jawbreaker that My Chemical Romance or Fall Out Boy. This is from the glorious days when emo could actually be a genre you'd rock out to.

You can listen to "Stand Alone" below. The song is out now as a single via Thousand Island Records. For more on Brand New Lungs, check out the band's Facebook and Instagram.

Steve & Ginie Jackson - "Tear My Voice"

Steve and Ginie Jackson first met when their bands played a show together. They started planning about touring and playing music together, and ended up falling in love with each other. Now they're a violin and mandolin duo that play traditional music with a modern pop and indie rock twist. Despite playing with such traditional instruments and how minimal their music is, Steve & Ginie Jackson make completely modern music. The Montreal based duo's latest single, "Tear My Voice," is the kind of ballad that could get played on top 40 radio with different instrumentation. Oddly enough, with more traditional rock instruments this could have ended up as a punk song. It has just enough of an edge to it to be kinda emo at the same time. If you've been looking for traditional music steeped in modern pop and pop punk, "Tear My Voice" is a dream come true for you.

You can listen to "Tear My Voice" below. Colder Than the Sea is due out May 26 on Thousand Island Records. For more on Steve & Ginie Jackson, check them out on Facebook and Bandcamp.
