Trash Rabbit - "Ace Anthem"

Boston's Trash Rabbit are proud to be an emo band, and their latest single is defiantly emo. But "Ace Anthem" is more than just your typical emo song. It takes all of the elements that make up the genre and then just expands on them. There is much more indie rock style guitar in "Ace Anthem," and the song just has a pure groove to it. There's an odd undercurrent of 60's style psychedelia that was a wild surprise, and it dares you not to dance. Emo isn't usually inspired by music from six decades ago, but Trash Rabbit have brought in such a great element to this song. This might be one of the most brilliant and creative songs in the normally strict genre in a long, long time.

Trash Rabbit - "Rubberneck"

Trash Rabbit are one of the better up and coming emo bands in Boston, but their latest single sees the band going in a slightly different direction. "Rubberneck" is still emo, and proudly so. But it's much more late 90's emo than the mainstream emo that dominated Total Request Live back in the early 00's. You're going to hear much more 90's indie rock than pop punk, more The Promise Ring than New Found Glory. Of course, this is still Trash Rabbit, so there's a lot more of a modern pop vibe than you would expect, but in a truly good way.

Trash Rabbit - "Rock Bottom"

Boston's Trash Rabbit are typically labelled emo, but their new single shows that they are much more than that. Sure, "Rock Bottom" is an emo song, but Trash Rabbit dabble in a wide range of influences. It's not just bands like Paramore and Joyce Manor that inspired the sound of "Rock Bottom." All four members have studied jazz, along with other individual influences like shoegaze, hardcore, R&B, and reggaeton. Jazz in particular seems to seep into this song the most. As emo and pop punk as "Rock Bottom" gets, there is this freeform feel to the song that you normally don't get in such rigid formats as punk or emo. This is a fairly new band that's already starting to push the boundaries of their genre, so be sure to keep an eye on them.
