Sapling - "A Fox Upon the Tomb"

We absolutely loved Sapling's 2020 release No Sequoia. Their blend of aggressive and mocking noise punk just hit such a sweet spot for my taste in music. Once I heard they had a new album coming out, I was excited for more of the same. "A Fox Upon the Tomb" blew away all my expectations. It does this amazing thing where it sounds like Sapling while leaping far past everything they have previously done. They've created a song that is far more melodic than the songs on No Sequoia while being more aggressive. "A Fox Upon the Tomb" is an angry song, and there is still a sense of humor, but the humor in the song (which was inspired by the overturning of Roe vs. Wade) seems more to be used to make sure the band don't completely lose their minds. This might sound like hyperbole, but remember how great Radiohead's first two albums were and then they completely blew us all away with OK Computer? "A Fox Upon the Tomb" feels like that. Plus it includes flute and alto clarinet which almost adds some prog rock to their art punk sound.

You can watch the video for "A Fox Upon the Tomb" below. amor fati is due out in the spring and can still be pre-ordered through Sapling's IndieGoGo. For more on Sapling, check out the band's website.
