Grey DeLisle - "Didn't We Try"

Los Angeles based musician Grey DeLisle doesn't sound like a California artist. After hearing her latest single, "Didn't We Try," I assumed she was from Nashville or anywhere besides Los Angeles. The song fits perfectly into the alt-country genre, with plenty of twang throughout. What might be the most interesting sound is how much the guitar doesn't really fit a country song. There's something oddly jangly about the guitar, even when it still sounds country-esque. And then the indie/garage rock fuzz comes in and elevates "Didn't We Try" even more. Plus, the song comes in at just under two minutes, which is a very punk length. This one is well worth multiple listens and will grow on you with each one.

Grey DeLisle says of her latest single:

“I’ve been in and out of 12-step groups my entire life. They always tell you you shouldn’t date anyone in the program for the first year, but I never listen. I was doing some recording with Stephen McCarthy (The Long Ryders, The Jayhawks) and he asked me what I was writing. I sent him the song and without me even having to ask…he sent back a version with his harmony added! I loved it!”
