Josh McKelvie - "Drop of Water"

You might know Josh McKelvie as the former lead singer for pop punk band Waiver Wire who we last covered way back in 2021. Now he's solo and recently released a new single. "Drop of Water" isn't quite the pop punk sound from McKelvie's former band, but it's adjacent to that. It's an incredibly catchy song overflowing with pop hooks. It's almost like if Fountains of Wayne decided to try pop punk, or maybe a singer-songwriter side of the genre. It definitely lives in the world where it's a little too pop to be a rock song at times and too rock to be pop at others. It's squarely in the space between the genres, which makes it simply a great catchy and fun song.
