Constellation Myths - "Spare Room"

Jay Breitling of Parcheesi Redux has referred to Constellation Myths as "Damaged Americana," and after you hear "Spare Room," you'll understand why. The Boston band's latest single has all the trappings of folk/Americana/roots music, but through more of an indie rock lens. I know we tend to refer to songs as combining Americana and indie rock quite a bit here, but we really mean it with "Spare Room." The song includes banjo and pedal steel, but I can't truly qualify the song as Americana or even alt-country. It's far too noisy and refuses to follow the standard rules of any genre. Constellation Myths let the song plod and meander around to where it needs to go, possibly gently directing it every so often.

You can listen to "Spare Room" below. The Cost of Living is due out July 16. For more on Constellation Myths, check out the band's website.
