Jacob Morris is a Durham, NC based singer, songwriter, cellist, and multi-instrumentalist. His latest single, "Stoney," is a relatively straightforward singer/songwriter and Americana song, except it's not quite arranged that way. It's a slow and meandering track that isn't exactly haunting, but it gives the feeling of being detached from the world. Morris' vocals drone on, giving the only true sense on constant in "Stoney." The music seems to move along on its own, with only the barest sense of direction caused by humans. This is a wonderfully unique song that came so close to being run of the mill, but ended up being its very own thing.
Jacob Morris says of his new single:
“'Stoney' sprung from an email that my grandmother sent me right before she passed away at the age of 95. She described feeling like she was sinking into her bed and was going to drift away. I have no idea why I was the only recipient or why she didn't say anything else.”
You can listen to "Stoney" below. Slow Funeral is due out June 23 on Strolling Bones Records, and can be pre-ordered here. For more on Jacob Morris, check out the artist's website.
