Radhika - "Feline Bandits"

Image
Photo by Eilidh McQuiggan Radhika, the musical project of Radhika Meera Dade, has a new single out and has announced their debut album. "Feline Bandits" is a laid back slice of dream pop. It's on the extreme quiet side of the genre, and the chillness makes it end up more on the pop side of things. It's not trip hop, but it's reminding me of Belly meets Sneaker Pimps based mostly on the vibes the track gives off. The song was inspired from watching a documentary on Vivienne Westwood, Westwood: Punk, Icon, Activist . The quiet nature of the song is exactly why it's so engaging, as it forces you to listen more closely and pay stronger attention. Radhika Meera Dade says of her latest single: "Through interviews and archive footage I was fascinated by the insights of Westwood’s relationship with her partner and how both of their flamboyant personalities differed in a beautiful way. This was born through shared playful imagination, which allowed them to create ...

Radhika featuring Gerard Love and Mitch Mitchell - "Starry Eyes"

Photo by Future Pilot Art/Sushil K Dade Radhika is Scottish dream pop band consisting of Radhika Meera Dade, Sushil K Dade/Future Pilot, and Eric MacDonald. The trio has a new track out that features Gerard Love (Lightships/ex-Teenage Fanclub) and Mitch Mitchell (The Pastels). "Starry Eyes" is pure, classic dream pop. While much of the modern genre is heavier on the pop side, Radhika sound more like dream pop from the 90's. It's filled with dreamlike, swirling guitars, and surrounds you like a warm embrace. The song is almost impossibly lush and beautiful while still being a rock song. "Starry Eyes" is jaw-droppingly great, and is guaranteed to make you an instant Radhika superfan. Radhika Meera Dade says of the band's latest single: "I was looking through some old black and white pictures with my grandmother Soma and she said in a soft voice ‘I miss my mother’. This gentle intergenerational exchange was the starting point for Starry Eyes. The words...

Thurston Moore - Klangfarbenmelodie.. And The Colorist Strikes Primitiv

Image
As inaccessible to mainstream audiences a lot of Sonic Youth's output was, there is some of their work that is just pure noise, and I mean that in the best possible way. Way back in 1995, Thurston Moore released  Klangfarbenmelodie.. And The Colorist Strikes Primitiv  only in New Zealand. It was a free noise set with free jazz drummer Tom Surgal. You'll know if you want to hear this based on that description alone, and if you do, you're in luck.  Klangfarbenmelodie.. And The Colorist Strikes Primitiv   is being released for the first time in the States, and on 180-gram heavyweight vinyl. Thurston Moore performing with a free jazz drummer in 1995 won't be for everyone, but for those of us excited by this idea, this release is a dream come true. You can listen to " Klangfarbenmelodie.. And The Colorist Strikes Primitiv (Part 2)" below.  Klangfarbenmelodie.. And The Colorist Strikes Primitiv will be released on November 2 on Glass Modern Records. You ...
