Friday Freebie: Swagger: Second Shot (Free Digital) Compilation

Image
If you're of a certain age, you remember record label samplers. The best were the free ones in a cardboard sleeve they kept in a stack at the register. You'd get maybe twenty songs, and is was a favorite way to discover new bands and artists. Apparently Rum Bar Records also remembers, and they've just released a new album sampler on Bandcamp! Swagger: Second Shot (Free Digital) Compilation  came out last week. Rum Bar Records is a favorite around If It's Too Loud... headquarters, with their focus on garage rock, punk, and power pop. This new twenty-eight song sampler features some bands we already know and love (Brad Marino, Jay Allen and the Archcriminals, The Hellflowers, The Ghost Truckers, Miss Georgia Peach, and more), but the best part of these is always discovering new favorites. (We're already excited about listening to Foxy's catalog more deeply!) If you love garage rock, punk, and power pop like we do, you're going to adore Swagger: Second Shot (Fr...

Miss Georgia Peach - "Shut Up and Drink Your Beer"

Image
Miss Georgia Peach is back with a new album due on Valentine's Day, and there's a new single we can check out today! "Shut Up and Drink Your Beer" is that perfect blend of alt-country or outlaw country that's far too rock 'n' roll to be country and far too country to be rock 'n' roll. It's a fun song with heavy guitars that twang just the right amount. Plus, with Miss Georgia Peach crooning vocals added to the song, you get a recipe for a song that's perfect for all fans of alt-country and rockabilly. Part of what makes "Shut Up and Drink Your Beer" is that it features Nashville Pussy as Miss Georgia Peach's backing band, and you aren't finding much cooler than that. You can listen to "Shut Up and Drink Your Beer" below. Class Out the Ass is due out February 14 on Rum Bar Records, and is available for pre-order through Bandcamp . For more on Miss Georgia Peach, check out the artist on Facebook and Instagram . Cl...

First Listen: New Releases for 18 March

Image
Artist : Miss Georgia Peach Album : Aloha from Kentucky Quick Thoughts : If you look at this album cover, you can probably make an educated guess as to what this album will be like, and your guess will probably be correct. This is such a fun, raucus roots effort from an act I hadn't previously heard of, and it doesn't take itself too seriously even while being seriously awesome. Roots/country fans should absolutely take some time for this one. Songs of Note : "Do You Know What Love Means," "Jackson" Artist : PLOSIVS Album : PLOSIVS Quick Thoughts : A punk rock supergroup of sorts, PLOSIVS is an energetic act with a lot of great moments on this debut album. It's melodic and noisy in all the right ways, and feels fully formed from the star (as we'd come to expect from the people involved). As someone who is a little picky about his punk, I really liked this and I'm excited to spend more time with it. A great listen this week. Songs of...

Miss Georgia Peach with Blaine Cartwright - "You Blow My Mind"

Image
You might know Miss Georgia Peach as the singer/bass player for The Short Fuses and Blaine Cartwright as the guitarist for Nashville Pussy. The two have joined forces for a new song "You Blow My Mind." The new song is impeccably done country punk. It's twangy as hell and is just dripping with punk attitude. It doesn't have any of the anger or aggression associated with punk, though. This duet is pure joy. "You Blow My Mind" is just fun. Miss Georgia Peach and Blaine Cartwright have crafted a song that is one of the most fun country rock songs you've heard in ages. While a lot of country punk winks at the audience, "You Blow My Mind" revels in the genre without a shred of irony. You can watch the video for "You Blow My Mind" below. Aloha From Kentucky , the upcoming album from Miss Georgia Peach, is due out in March from Rum Bar Records. For more on Miss Georgia Peach, check out The Short Fuses' website .
