Perennial - "Modernism"

We've been huge fans of Perennial's for years now, and always felt that the Connecticut band should be much, much bigger than they are, but always assumed their sound might be too unique for the masses. That could very well change with their latest single. "Modernism" keeps everything we've always loved about Perennial. It's melodic art punk, equal parts The Kinks and Refused. It's loud and noisy, but also fully danceable, with a moments sure to end up imbedded in your head for days to come. But, they may have figured out the formula to stardom with "Modernism." It lands just barely on the side of melodic and catchy just enough to appeal to a wider audience while still thrilling long time fans. Basically, "Modernism" is a great song sure to break out of Perennial's niche fan base.

Glixen - "all tied up"

Photo by Jocelyn Pacheco Phoenix's Glixen have quickly become our favorite heavy shoegaze band, and songs like "all tied up" will show you exactly why. This new single might be the most classically shoegaze song they've released to date. It sounds like it could be a lost song from the Loveless sessions. It's filled with a heavy wall of fuzz and lumbers along at a midtempo pace. As always, Aislinn Ritchie's vocals have a slight pop sheen to them, even if they tend to take a backseat to the music surrounding her. This mixed with the absolutely punishing drums throughout "all tied up" make it a heavy shoegaze instant masterpiece. TORRES - "I got the fear"

The musical project of Mackenzie Scott has released a new single that features her vocals and acoustic guitar that would feel at home in a neo-folk song over a pre-programmed drum beat with sounds that at times are either a light squall of guitar feedback and electronic noises. The song has this haunting and unsettling feeling to it, despite sounding like it's trying to be upbeat. I'd say art doesn't always have to be a pleasant experience, but "I got the fear" can be a pleasant listening experience, except for the times it's not. Daisy the Great - "Ballerina"

Photo by Alexa Ondrush The latest single from Daisy the Great is a delightful burst of punk-ish energy. "Ballerina" combines punk rock with pop in a way we haven't quite heard. It's kind of like if The Donnas were both more raw and more pop. Plus, "Ballerina" is incredibly theatrical. It sounds like it's taken off of some unreleased punk rock Broadway musical. Not many bands can pull off raw punk at the same time as theatrical musical, but Daisy the Great prove it can be done, and done amazingly well. This is an infectious song that you'll instantly love, and immediately want to hear again just to make sure you heard it right the first time.
