"By My Side," which features vocals from Marlon Magnée of La Femme, is more fun than anything else you've listened to today. It's like vintage 70's dance music filtered through the post Boogie Nights attempted disco revival of the 90's, 00's indie sleaze, and all covered with a layer of modern pop sheen. You might not want to listen to this at your work desk in case you accidentally start a dance party, but this is going to be perfect as you start your Friday on your ride home. Cover songs are a big component of what we do here at If It's Too Loud..., and we're huge fans of a great cover whether that's cool or not. It feels like it's been a while since we've brought you a great cover, so luckily for us all Salem Wolves just released an EP of five cover songs! You get covers of The Replacements' "The Ledge," Husker Du's "Don't Want to Know if You're Lonely," Jawbreaker's "Jet Black," INXS' "Never Tear Us Apart," and Tom Waits' "Dirt in the Ground." It's five wildly different songs that are all iconic and beyond fantastic, done in the garage rock shooting for arena levels of huge style of Salem Wolves. All songs keep the roots of the originals intact, but definitely have a new spin on them. Gordon Withers is best known as a rock cellist in J Robbins band. He also does solo cello covers of well known rock songs. He is about to release Jawbreaker On Cello , which as you can probably guess is an album of Jawbreaker covers done on cello. The first song we can hear from it is "Bivouac." Now, you can probably guess what Jawbreaker being performed on cello is going to sound like, and you'd be exactly right. This isn't some crazy, experimental version of a cello based song. But it is an incredible arrangement of a classic punk song done in a way you never expected to hear it. You already know if you want to listen to this.
