The band's latest single, "Night Glitter," is one of the most lovely indie pop songs we've heard this year. It's a captivating ballad that sounds much cheerier than it actually is. Vocalist Meghan Kelleher sounds fantastic on this one, and the song is centered on her vocals. It's the kind of song that is benefitted by its simplicity. "Night Glitter" is more than a little hypnotic, and lulls you into a dreamlike state while listening. It's filled with a sense of optimism and hope, despite the darkness within the song. Meghan Kelleher says of her band's latest single: “Over the past couple of years, our whole band really did a lot of wrestling with mortality. "Light Taker" is a lush and layered track that moves between being an upbeat track and a more laid back and melancholy one. It's a very nuanced song that "... mimics the tumultuous feeling of spiraling completely out of control in the throes of the night." This isn't the typical subject matter of a pop song, but Divine Sweater are hardly your typical pop band. What starts off as a low key pop jam quickly devolves into a more emotionally affecting song. The band just released a new single that is being described as "sophistipop." "Counterparts" is an absolutely gorgeous song that does indeed sound like a classier version of pop. It's filled with the kind of smooth horns you might find in a jazz or folk track, but Divine Sweater use them to create pop music for grown ups. This is the kind of pop band that wouldn't seem out of place in a venue like Club Passim, and you certainly can't say that about most music in the genre. Photo by Justin Bartlett Coral Moons recently relocated from Boston to Rochester, NY, but we'll try not to hold that against them (too much). Their latest single, "Another Woman," is more of the gorgeous alt-pop we've come to love from them. The single is a lush and kind of soothing sounding song that is nearly dream pop but not quite. Singer Carly Kraft has never sounded so confident and powerful in her vocals as she does on "Another Woman." This is the type of indie pop or alt-pop song that will win you over even if you typically run from pop music. Coral Moons just have a certain charm that is going to be impossible to resist. Photo by CJ Moy It's been a little while since we've brought you new music from hex gf, the new musical project of Photocomfort's Justine Bowe. On their latest single, they continue to dance along the line between pop and rock. "Party" sounds a lot like the space in between Rilo Kiley and Jenny Lewis's more recent pop-oriented work. It's an indie rock song that is steeped quite heavily in both disco and 80's synth music. It's an interesting song that is chill and laid back while still making you want to dance awkwardly and most likely alone. You can watch the lyric video for "Party" below. hex gf is the new band featuring Justine Bowe of Photocomfort and her friend Sam, both of Magic Man. (Sorry, only have a Facebook post to go to for information...) The band has released their debut single, "Knife." hex gf is different from Photocomfort, but fans of Bowe's other musical project are going to find plenty to love here. "Knife" is an upbeat alt-dance track. It melds that line perfectly between pop and rock so that it's hard to discern what this song quite is. This might just be dance music for people that hate dance and rock for people that hate rock. Regardless, you're going to love "Knife," and we're going to be watching for whatever hex gf come out with next! You can watch the video for "Knife" below.
