The Klittens - "Nothing to Teach"

Image
Photo by Jade Sastropawiro Amsterdam's The Klittens are back with one last single before their album comes out later this month. "Nothing to Teach" is an oddly groovy song. It still has the Dry Cleaning meets The Ronettes sound of their previous singles, but in a different way. It's almost like a post-punk band decided to play a jam band festival. It's noisy, but not in a chaotic or loud way. It's more quietly noisy. For this one, I'm hearing more Dismemberment Plan than I've heard before. I hate referring to songs as quirky since that can be used as a negative, but "Nothing to Teach" is quirky in the perfect way.  Vocalist Yael Dekker says of her band's latest single: "'Nothing To Teach' is a reimagined preach, delivered with the same conviction but not the same convictions. The band would like to instil a different sense of purpose, to live a life unbothered by those who (think they) are all knowing.” You can watch the vide...

The Klittens - "Taxi"

Image
Photo by Jade Sastropawiro Last month we were floored by the latest single from The Klittens. The Amsterdam band are back with another single, "Taxi." Their latest is an interesting and unique mixture of alt-rock, and is somehow more accessible and stranger than "Have a Heart." It reminds me of some of my favorite bands from the early and mid 90's that should have been much bigger than they were, like that dog or Cake Like. A song like "Taxi" is so close to being a mainstream alt-rock hit, but a band like The Klittens keeps it just weird enough to keep things too interesting for that. This latest song is a mid-tempo track that sees the band hinting at noise rock but not quite getting that noisy. If "Have a Heart" made us intrigued, "Taxi" has us all in on The Klittens. You can watch the video for "Taxi" below. Have a Heart is due out September 25 on Cargo Records, and is available for pre-order here . For more on The Klitt...

The Klittens - "Have a Heart"

Photo by Jade Sastropawiro Amsterdam's The Klittens include The Ronettes, MF Doom, Dry Cleaning, and Kate Bush as their influences, so we're obviously going to check them out. Their latest single, "Have a Heart," is a wonderfully weird song, which you'd guess just from that list of artists. The song starts out as a groovy, noise punk version of The Ronettes. That along makes for a great song, but it slowly starts to devolve into more noise while still keeping the groove and melodies intact. Not many artists can pull that off, but The Klittens do perfectly. We're just discovering this great band, and are thrilled to share them with you. Guitarist Winnie Conradi says of the band's latest single: “'Have A Heart' was an easy song to start and a tougher one to finish. From the get-go the concept was clear: an indie song that ripples along with a rock ’n roll sort of strut. But where there’s ease I want chaos and my campaign for an unstructured noise par...
