"Do You" is Maple Glider (real name Tori Zietsch) showing off her captivating folk-pop. The new song isn't pushing any boundaries, but it's just nailing the genre expertly. "Do You" has a dreamlike feeling, and Zietsch's vocals just suck you in. It's not quite a mainstream version of folk-pop, but it's at the least folk-pop adjacent. The latest is "Two Years," which is the most pop leaning song we've heard from her so far. "Two Years" is the kind of song that slowly morphs tempo and style. Most songs build to a larger sound as they go on, but Maple Glider takes the opposite approach with this one. It starts off as a mid-tempo folk-pop song and ever so slowly the song seems to strip itself apart until it is just bare bones and mostly folk. Of course, as is the case with the best songs, the light, cheery sound of the music hides a darker message in the lyrics. "Dinah" is inspired by the bible story of a woman being victim blamed for being sexually assaulted. It's the kind of song that sounds like a perfect summer song until you actually pay attention to the lyrics. The upbeat vibe of the song makes the message that much more dark and disturbing. Tori Zietsch says of her new song: “For me, 'Dinah' is the scariest thing I’ve ever put out. It’s probably the most pop feeling song I’ve released, but it’s really quite an angry song. I have felt incredibly disturbed and frustrated and sad in the process of writing and putting it together. "Don't Kiss Me" has that light and breezy sound that contains country, folk, indie rock, and pop that we cover a lot here (and that seems to be emanating from Australia lately). But as the song goes on, you're going to be thinking of other musicians less and less. Sure, "Don't Kiss Me" stays in that same genre, but Zietsch has her own sound. The song just builds and builds into this glorious epic, with the vocals keeping the same intensity while the music crescendos around her.
