runo plum - "pink moon"

Image
It could just be the fact that runo plum's latest single is called "pink moon," but this song is giving us some serious Nick Drake vibes. While plum typically has an indie rock meets folk sound, this latest single gets far more experimental than we're used to from the artist. It remains somewhat folk, but mostly because there's acoustic guitars. Along with the incredibly sparse use of guitar, the song sounds almost like a patchwork with other instrumentation floating in occasionally. There are also little snippets of backing vocals that sound like samples at times. "pink moon" could be described as haunting, but only like a spirit that creaks a floorboard once every few months. This one may be the most intriguing track we've heard from runo plum so far. runo plum says of her latest single: "the love I was experiencing felt like a 'once in a blue moon' situation–but we are both girls, so it felt cute to make it a 'pink moon.' I re...

runo plum - "butterflies"

Image
Photo by Alexa Viscius runo plum just released the excellent patching back in November, but now the singer-songwriter is already back with new music. "butterflies" is a quiet song that's a little folky by default. As it goes on, the song gets a little twangy, but also starts edging a little into indie rock. The song is a natural extension of patching even while showing plum growing as an artist. If you're a fan of the quieter side of Blondshell or any of Boygenius' members, "butterflies" is going to work for you. It's an intimate and personal song while still sounding lush and fully fleshed out. runo plum says of her latest single: "You might assume it's about the giddy feelings of having nervous butterflies when you have a crush, and I suppose it is, but it's more so about those feelings being crushed, and not knowing what to do with those feelings. It’s a really tender song I wrote during the period when I wrote ‘patching.’" You c...

runo plum - "Alley Cat"

Image
Photo by Noa Francis We're highly anticipating the new album from runo plum due out this Friday, so we're thrilled to have one last single to check out before it's released. "Alley Cat" is a perfect mixture of folk and indie rock. It's starts out as more of a DIY folk song as indie rock elements slowly work their way into the song. It has a very gentle build and seems to evolve at its own pace as a simple and slightly rough song becomes a fully fleshed out and lush composition. "Alley Cat" is going to appeal to fans of boygenius or any of its parts. It takes a special artist to make a song about social anxiety so compelling, and that's exactly what runo plum is. You can watch the video for "Alley Cat" below. patching is due out November 14 on Winspear, and is available for pre-order here . For more on runo plum, check out the artist's website . Upcoming tour dates are below the video and include a February 8 date at Sonia in Cambrid...

runo plum - "Pond"

Image
Of all of the artists we've discovered this year that feel like they're going to become huge, none have that feeling like runo plum. The singer-songwriter's latest single, "Pond," seems more traditionally mainstream than her previous singles. This one just has that little something that sounds like a hit song. plum's vocals are exquisite in "Pond," and the song dances along a line between folk and indie rock. There's just enough of an indie rock edge to keep things interesting (and us music snobs satisfied), while keeping the song just mainstream enough to your average music listener. runo plum has something mesmerizing with "Pond," and we can't recommend it highly enough. You can watch the video for "Pond" below. patching is due out November 14 on Winspear, and is available for pre-order here . For more on runo plum, check out the artist's website . runo plum - "Halfway Up the Lawn"

Image
The latest from runo plum is an interesting little folk-ish track that meanders into different and unexpected directions. "Halfway Up the Lawn" starts off as a sweet and compelling track that shows off the more poppy side of the Americana/singer-songwriter sound. If that's all the song was, it would still be a winner that we wouldn't be able to resist. But then this surprising guitar kicks in that's somewhere along the lines of if Doug Martsch went country. "Halfway Up the Lawn" is a dreamy and mesmerizing single that will bring you on a brief, just over two minute journey. You can watch the video for "Halfway Up the Lawn" below. patching is due out November 14 on Winspear, and is available for pre-order here . For more on runo plum, check out the artist's website . runo plum - "Sickness"

Image
Minneapolis' runo plumb is set to release her debut album, and has a new single out for us to check out. "Sickness" lands in that part indie rock, part singer-songwriter genre that we can't seem to get enough of. It's a midtempo song that meanders around as it needs to, sometimes sounding a little folky, other times letting the noise of the guitar bleed through into a more indie rock territory. plum has this ability to make the guitar beautiful, even at its noisiest. The true power of "Sickness" is in its quiet parts. This isn't a song that needs to grab you with volume. It's going to draw you in fully by being a fantastic song. You can watch the video for "Sickness" below. patching is due out November 14 on Winspear, and is available for pre-order here . For more on runo plum, check out the artist's website .
