"you're like me" has this laid back, mid-tempo vibe that's just accentuated by Victoria Winter's vocals that land in the realm of Juliana Hatfield and Liz Phair. This is the style of song that would have dominated MTV's Buzz Bin thirty years ago, with it's fuzzy guitars propelling the song along. "you're like me" lives in the more mainstream side of indie rock. As nostalgia soaked as the song is, Shower Curtain don't sound like a throwback, and are more the modern version of that sound and vibe. "wish u well" is a hypnotic song that almost lulls you with singer Victoria Winter's slacker style vocals and mesmerizing guitars. The song does have a fierce bite which reveals itself more when Winter's vocals fade out. "wish u well" is going to be especially appealing to fans of Liz Phair, Blondshell, and Hello Mary. The song harkens back to Shower Curtain's origins as a bedroom pop act, now formed as a full band. Photo by Juliette Boulay Modern day shoegaze always seems to be mixed with other genres, and Brooklyn via Brazil's Shower Curtain are no exception. The only question we have with their latest single is what genre are they mixing it with? "Edgar" has all the drone and feedback needed with shoegaze, but they added a little something to it that we can't quite put our finger on. It has a little bit more of a pop edge to it than we would expect with shoegaze, but it's not really a pop song. The guitar has an unexpected crunch at times, but it's not really a punk or grunge sound with "Edgar." It's almost a modern alt-rock sound, like you'd hear with bands like Wet Leg or Ratboys, but that's still just not right. We'll just have to accept that Shower Curtain are making a new style of shoegaze that we can't easily define, and that's certainly not a bad thing.
