If It's Too Loud...

Sweden's The Boatsmen are back with more high energy rock and roll! "Why Wait" might actually be a little more melodic than what we've heard from them previously, but that doesn't mean they're slowing down at all. "Why Wait" is still a hard rock song that leans into garage and punk without truly being either. This is just pure hard rock and roll, this time with some more melody and maybe even some power pop influences. "Why Wait" sounds like Cheap Trick deciding to rock a little harder than usual. And then there's the guitar solo which should come with a warning label about your face getting melted off. You can watch the video for "Why Wait" below. KISS are one of my least favorite bands out there, but for some reason I love covers of their songs. The Boatsmen might be one of the most perfect bands to cover the classic shock rockers, and they have made their cover of "Room Service" available digitally for the first time. It was originally released on a KISS tribute album,  SSIK Action, put out by Devil Beat Records. I'm completely unfamiliar with the original version of "Room Service," but I can guarantee that The Boatsmen do a perfect job covering it. It still sounds like a KISS song, but our favorite Swedish hard garage rockers do inject their own little thing into the cover. It's a fun version of a song, and even if you don't particularly enjoy the original you could very well end up loving the cover. You can listen to The Boatsmen covering "Room Service" below. Photo by Martman Henningsson Earlier this year No Heroes, No Leaders, No Artists, No Gods: A Tribute to the New Bomb Turks was released. It was originally a vinyl only release, but it's finally starting to come out digitally. I was surprised to see The Boatsmen on it, since I considered New Bomb Turks to be a mellow, mainstream 90's alternative rock band. Turns out I was completely wrong and apparently have them confused with another band. If you enjoyed The Boatsmen's 2021 album Versus The Boatsmen  as much as I have, New Bomb Turks are going to be perfect for you. Both bands play this absurdly loud straight up no nonsense rock that deeply dabbles into punk. The Boatsmen's cover of "Wine and Depression" from the tribute album is spot on. Maybe it's a little sloppier and more rambunctious, but that can be a good thing. If you already love The Boatsmen, you're going to love this song and then you're going to want to do a deep dive into New Bomb Turk...

We may have missed this video back when it came out back in October, but we're going to use it to remind you that Sweden's The Boatsmen are about to release a new album Friday. "Blame It On Me" is just pure rock and roll. It's fast, and loud, and heavy, but it's also groovy as all hell. It's rock with heavy elements of punk and proto-punk. As with all things from The Boatsmen, there is absolutely zero pretention here. Even the killer guitar solo is so killer because it's impossibly sloppy. I usually hate just copying a band description from a press release, but this one is perfect: "The Boatsmen were formed when all other great rock n roll bands quit or just stopped being good." Hailing from Sweden, The Boatsmen are a perfect example of modern rock 'n' roll. Their latest single, "When I'm Drunk," is a loud, fast, and in your face burst of pure rock. It's a little too flashy to be garage, and it lives in the same universe as Motorhead, straddling the line between punk and metal, and perfect for fans of both. Plus, there's just the slightest hint of 70's and 80's glam in here to allow it to still be as straight up rock as it is. Also, it's called "When I'm Drunk," so there's no sense of pretention here.
