If It's Too Loud...

The Highwater Marks is a musical project from Hilarie Sidney, co-founder of Elephant 6 and drummer for Apples in Stereo. It's a transatlantic project that also includes Per Ole Bratset, who Sidney met at a show in Oslo, Norway. Their latest single, "Old Farm Witches," is the kind of music you'd expect from an Elephant 6 project. It's a trippy, melodic, and pop filled indie rock song. The press release for their upcoming album lists influences that include The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Guided By Voices, and Pavement. That sums up a song like "Old Farm Witches": It's equal parts classic 60's psychedelic pop rock and 90's indie rock legends. Artist : Brimheim Album : can't hate myself into a different shape Quick Thoughts : Brimheim came as a surprise to me this week. It's an interesting listen rhhat leans in fairly hard into the lower-fi alt-rock territory, but then you get songs like the title track or "hey amanda" and you realize quickly how special this is. On a whole, I really enjoyed this listen, and I'm looking forward to getting back to it.
