Nashon - "runaway"

Image
Photo by SJ Spreng Nashon was raised in New Jersey but now calls California home. His latest single, "runaway," defies all genres. It has this weird Beach Boys by way of Guided By Voices sound, but even that isn't enough to describe it. It's a sunny indie rock goes pop song with a tiny bit of hip hop thrown in. What makes it most interesting is that it's a happy song with a touch of angst in Nashon's vocals. Everything I'm saying makes "runaway" sound like it's going to be a complete disaster, but it works out wonderfully into one of your favorite songs of the year. Nashon says of his new single: "Indie rock vibes were the easiest for me to sing, so I ran with it."  You can watch the video for "runaway" below. The song will be included on  MARTYR; ACT III , which is due out soon. For more on Nashon, check out the artist on Twitter and Instagram .

Jon Muq - "Runaway"

Photo by Jim Herrington Jon Muq was born in Uganda and now resides in Austin, TX. He's performed on the streets, cruise ships, and opened for artists like Billy Joel, Norah Jones, and Mavis Staples. Now he has his debut single, and you're going to want to jump on the bandwagon right now. "Runaway" has that easygoing mainstream folk thing going for it. If it had been released three months ago, I would have declared it to be the song of the summer. It also has a bit of an Afropop sound to it that helps set it apart from the majority of mainstream folk-pop. Muq also adds this intensity to the song that is hard to put your finger on. As easygoing as it is, it gives the song an immediacy that is impossible to ignore. Jon Muq says of his new single: “Running away from anything good or bad is never a weakness but rather courageous.” You can watch the video for "Runaway" below. The Dan Auerbach produced song is available now via Easy Eye Sound, and is available for ...

Foxx Bodies - "Runaway"

Image
Photo by Rochelle Shipman I know it's been well over twenty years and this is an old man complaint, but a lot of newer Kill Rock Stars releases don't sound like what I picture Kill Rock Stars releases to sound like. Of course they don't. The music industry and tastes change, and a label needs to evolve to stay current. Los Angeles' Foxx Bodies sound like classic Kill Rock Stars. Their latest single, "Runaway," is roughly a minute long. (The YouTube video clocks in at two minutes exactly with a thirty second intro and ending. It sounds like a mash up of early Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Bratmobile. It's wonderfully punk in that mocking way that I can never resist.  You can watch the video for "Runaway" below. Vixen  is due out November 5 on Kill Rock Stars. You can pre-order/pre-save the album here . For more on Foxx Bodies, check out the band's Facebook and Twitter .
