If It's Too Loud...

Montreal's Taxi Girls have a new single out that adds some power pop to their garage punk sound. "Secret Handshake" is undeniably catchy and totally upbeat. Listen once and try not to get the chorus or the "Ooooh ooooh"s out of your head. As sugary sweet and poppy as the song is, Taxi Girls still keep a punk edge in the song. I'm personally a sucker for garage rock and power pop, so I'm the target audience for "Secret Handshake." Aside from that, you're going to love this one. Taxi Girls have only been around for two years, but the Montreal band has already played with bands including NOFX, Lagwagon, The Hives, and Pansy Division. Their latest single, "Rainy," is a garage rock meets punk track that's just as rough as it is polished. It's dripping with attitude and venom towards a former friend of the band. It's angry, but it's also fun. This is the type of song that puts the punk back in pop punk, with all of the edge and rough side of garage rock.
