Photo by Herbie Bone I loved This Old House , the debut EP from mary in the junkyard. The London band added so many elements to their 90's alt-rock inspired sound that I simply could not resist them. They're back with a new single that is just as mesmerizing as the EP. "this is my california" has that same beautiful and noisy element we love about mary in the junkyard. At times the song is quiet and lovely, at other times it's more dissonant and noisy, and when it's at its best, it's all of those things at the same time. Even with all of the noise and changes throughout the song, "this is california" is a showcase for Clari Freeman-Taylor's vocals. They're delivered in an almost slacker style, but Freeman-Taylor is letting intense emotions come through whenever she sings. mary in the junkyard are quickly becoming a very special and unique band.
