Artist : Problem Patterns Album : Blouse Club Quick Thoughts : I tripped up on "Letter of Resignation" a few weeks back and fell for it hard . The anticipation on this album was warranted, as it's a nice hit of interesting and melodic punk with some great attitude and musicality. Artist : Li'l Andy Album : The Complete Recordings of Hezekiah Procter (1925-1930) Quick Thoughts : I didn't know Li'L Andy prior to this week, and this is more a concept record done really, really well than anything else. It's got that old timey feel to it, and half the album is filtered in such a way that it sounds like an old Victrola. As a concept album, it's awesome. As music, it's awesome. Give this a listen. Songs of Note : "Dr Kerr's Ballyhoo," "Jenny Blythe," "In the Roebuck Catalogue" Artist : Becca Stevens and Attacca Quartet Album : Becca Stevens | Attacca Quartet Quick Thoughts : Becca Stevens toured with Attacca Quartet a few years back, and she later married one of the members of the group. This effort takes a number of her songs (and an awesome Radiohead cover) and gives it the Attacca treatment to great results. This album is really great, and good for fans of either or both acts. Photo by Duncan Wright Australian artists have been absolutely killing it on the indie rock/Americana front lately. Carla Geneve is poised to be the new huge break out musician out of that country. Her latest single, "Don't Wanna Be Your Lover" lives firmly in between the worlds of indie rock and Americana. It has the trace elements of Americana while still just rocking out. It's reminding me a lot of whitechocolatespaceegg era Liz Phair or a more rocking Julia Jacklin. "Don't Wanna Be Your Lover" is a perfectly solid song for anyone who ever loved mid-90's alternative rock, or wants a little more edge in their Americana than the usual banjo bands provide. You can watch the video for "Don't Wanna Be Your Lover" below. It will be on her debut full length album due later in 2020 on Dot Dash Recordings/Remote Control Records. Photo by Darren Stapley Hopefully you're not sick of the surge of incredibly talented artists coming out of Australia, because the latest is Carla Geneve. "Yesterday's Clothes" starts out as a mostly traditional singer/songwriter song. It's not acoustic, but Geneve's vocals are definitely the focus of the song. Geneve's vocals are absurdly powerful, but not in a traditional sense. You'll understand this one once you listen. The guitar slowly takes over. It's so slow that you won't even realize it's happening until the end when it's a blistering whirlwind of pure rock. As for the subject matter of the song, I'll let Geneve explain it:  " Yesterday’s Clothes is about falling out of love with someone and feeling guilty about it. I wrote it at time when I was burning the candle at both ends and had no energy left to try to deal with the end of a relationship.
