If It's Too Loud...

When a band comes up with a new genre like doombrass, you accept that they're music is going to be unique and a little strange. With their latest single, Eight Foot Manchild have pushed the boundaries of their own genre even further. "Tanas Root" is an absolute epic packed into three and a half minutes. The song sounds like Frank Zappa meets Alice Cooper while playing around with prog rock... but also with a horn section. It's gloriously dark and still metal as hell, with an added burst of theatricality. Eight Foot Machild's music has always had a dark streak, but in a truly fun way. It's not sit around and mope dark, but party dark. It might not make sense to everyone, and that's ok. Photo by JAWZA As far as we know, Boston's Eight Foot Manchild are still the world's only doombrass band and remain the best. Their latest single, "Circle of Salt," is a mostly instrumental track "... inspired by horror movie soundtracks and Ennio Morricone." This one has an especially gigantic sound with more of an emphasis on groove than their normal metal sound. The horns on "Circle of Salt" are a little more upbeat than they typically are for Eight Foot Manchild, but this is still a loud, dark track. This is a band with one of the more unique sounds in the Boston area, and if you love heavy music and horns, you're going to quickly become a fan. You can listen to "Circle of Salt" below. Eight Foot Manchild continue to be the world's first and best doombrass band, and they continue to prove it with each single. Their latest, "The Good Death," may just be the finest example of the genre yet. The song is much more epic in scope than it's four minute run time suggests. It has the darkness and heaviness of Ozzy era Black Sabbath with the theatricality of Dio era Black Sabbath. I'm also getting some strong hints of Clutch and maybe even some Neutral Milk Hotel within "The Good Death." (Also pretty sure that's the first time those two bands have ever been used in a sentence together...) And all of this is wrapped up in some of the most killer horns that have ever been used in a metal song.  You can listen to "The Good Death" below.
