Danielle Durack - "Shirt Song"

Image
Photo by Chase Warren Nashville artist Danielle Durack wrote most of her upcoming album during lockdown, but despite that her latest single has a certain optimistic feeling to it. "Shirt Song" has that singer/songwriter meets indie rock and alt-pop that is all the rage right now, but Durack just has that certain something that elevates her above her peers. It's a break up song, but the kind of break up song that comes after the initial crushing heartbreak and you're well on your way to moving on. There are some Phoebe Bridgers vibes to the song, but in a more rootsy kind of way. "Shirt Song" is a beautiful little upbeat song that is sure to make you an instant fan. Danielle Durack says of her latest single: "'Shirt Song' serves as a bit of a chronological transition from my last release.  It’s an upbeat breakup song about feeling just a little bit better." Danielle Durack Covers ABBA

Image
Photo by Stephanie Ringleb "Dancing Queen" is one of the most famous songs of the disco era. Even if you despise ABBA or disco, you know the song. It's played at literally every single wedding you've ever been to, and it's sure to get as many people as possible on the dance floor. The song is literally a party in itself.  If you've ever wanted a thoughtful and contemplative cover of "Dancing Queen," Danielle Durack has you covered. The Phoenix based singer has released a stripped back, minimalist version of the disco classic. It's a synth filled song that somehow feels folk and organic. It's a gorgeous take on a song you've heard thousands of times, but despite how laid back it is, even that can't hold in the party of ABBA. But really, can anyone? Danielle Durack talks about her new single in a press release: "This cover was originally just going to be a wedding gift for a friend.  I flew out to Seattle to work with Samuel Rosson...

First Listen: New Releases for 15 January

Image
A little more catch-up and some solid new listens. Artist : Pearl Charles Album : Magic Mirror Quick Description : Gorgeous retro indie pop. Why You Should Listen : Reminiscent of Feist in many ways, but really bright and fun. Overall Thoughts : I don't see that we caught her previous album, although it appears I was listening to it at one point. Still, this album was so wonderful. In what's been a real weird time in America, you have an album here that really does some interesting stuff in its approach to pop music. A truly fascinating listen, and one that I think most everyone would find some value in. Recommendation : Make time for this one. Artist : Pom Poko Album : Cheater Quick Description : New album from the Norweigian indie rockers. Why You Should Listen : Lots of growth from their debut while still staying familiar. Overall Thoughts : Pom Poko always seems off, but in that good way when you're hearing things repeatedly and still find something new. T...

Danielle Durack - "Broken Wings"

Image
Photo by Eunice Beck "Broken Wings," the latest single from Phoenix's Danielle Durack, is a pretty straightforward singer/songwriter, folk adjacent song. It's a little more pop and mainstream than the music I dig, but it's just a great little song. And then the crashing drums and crunchy guitars kick in, amping the entire thing up a few notches. What starts off as a pretty little song becomes a straight up rocker, and then fades back into the quiet. It does all this while still sounding like the same song and maintaining consistency.  According to Danielle Durack, the song is  “...  a kind of wry take on my questionable taste in men ," she explains. " The song is pretty self critical, like, 'why do you keep doing this to yourself?' But also pretty jab-y towards the men in question. It's about wanting something that isn’t good for me ." You can watch the video for "Broken Wings" below. No Place , the upcoming album from Danielle...
