Johnson, and Josh Kaufman (aka folk-rock supergroup Bonny Light Horseman) have announced an upcoming double album and have released a new single. The Johnson sung "I Know You Know" is just modern folk-rock at its absolute perfection. This is the type of band that should be at least ten times as known as they are based on sheer talent. They're also the type of band that makes absolute magic when they play together. Once Mitchell and Johnson start harmonizing, "I Know You Know" truly takes off. Some voices are just meant to be heard together, and Bonny Light Horseman are unrivaled when they come together. You can watch the video for "I Know You Know" below. Bonny Light Horseman have a consistent track record of releasing gorgeous folk-pop that leans into more traditional folk, and "When I Was Younger" is no exception. However, this new song is more rock based than we normally hear from the trio. It starts off with Mitchell and Johnson trading verses until this screeching Neil Young style guitar solo kicks in. It's fairly unexpected, but also delightful. It's nice to see an established band spread out their style a but, especially when it's done as well as "When I Was Younger" does. No one is making folk/rock as beautiful as Bonny Light Horseman is these days. It's at the point that every time they release a new single, I keep treading the same water, but the supergroup of Anais Mitchell, Josh Kaufman, and Eric D. Johnson just keeps nailing it. The trio's new single, "Someone to Weep for Me," may be the best they've released from their upcoming album yet. It has such a laid back 70's California AM radio vibe, plus mesmerizing vocals and an electric guitar solo you wouldn't expect in such a laid back folk song. Johnson) has just released the perfect song for the summer, and not just because of its title. "Summer Dream" is a perfect light and airy folk/rock song. It has impeccable harmonizing and is about as mainstream as you can get with folk without crossing the line into pop. This is the perfect song for just being lazy during the summer. It's the sound of hanging out by a campfire, lounging on a porch, sitting on a beach... pretty much the only place this isn't perfect for is being inside of anything. Anais Mitchell, Eric D. Johnson, and Josh Kaufman have released "California," and it fits right in with what we love about Bonny Light Horseman. This is modern folk done at its finest. It's all gorgeous vocal harmonies with hynpotic guitar. Bonny Light Horseman are simply mesmerizing in their music, and this one of their more magnificent ones. Eric D.
