The song is rooted in classic, vintage country, but the song isn't truly traditional. Hale's vocals seem like they would be more at home in an indie rock song, and there is something twisted about the song musically. "Dear Girl" may take a second or two for you to adjust to, like the musical equivalent of walking outside on a sunny day.
