Andrew Sa - "Your Whisper"

Image
Photo by Alexa Viscius With every new single we hear, we get more and more excited for the upcoming debut album from Andrew Sa. "Your Whisper," his latest single, moves slightly away from the alt-country of his previous singles. There is still some twang present, but the song has more of a jazz/soul meets singer-songwriter sound. It's a slow and laid back sound that also edges just slightly into gospel with its backing vocals, and even some indie rock-esque drone (which sounds like it could have been made with a viola or fiddle). "Your Whisper" is a stunning song, both in its sound and how complex it is despite being stripped down. Without rewriting the Americana genre, Andrew Sa has crafted his very own sound with this latest single. Andrew Sa says of his latest single: “‘Your Whisper’ is intentionally very sensual. It's affirming sex with the windows open full of summer rain - Chet Baker Sings on the record player. Then there’s the ominous heart pangs, me...

Andrew Sa - "Under You"

Image
Photo by Alexa Viscius Andrew Sa has a magical sound that combines classic country and modern indie folk. His latest single, which was written by collaborator Liam Kazar, is titled "Under You" and has this dreamy quality to go along with the twang. It sounds like a song written and recorded decades ago by a time traveler from the 2000s. Sa has taken a sound incredibly familiar and comfortable and tweaked it just enough to make it fresh and all his own. "Under You" is a truly special song, and I have a feeling Sa's debut album is going to be blowing a lot of us away in June. Andrew Sa says of his latest single: “Liam Kazar is a friend whose songwriting I’ve admired for some time now. He knows my voice intimately and my infatuation with epic Roy Orbison tunes. ‘Under You’ is about feeling fully taken over, euphorically consumed by the obsessive spell of love.” You can listen to "Under You" below. American Rough is due out June 26 on Bloodshot Records, an...

Andrew Sa - "Lavender Cowboy"

Image
Photo by Alexa Viscius There are a handful of labels that I'll check out everything they put out since it's always great. One of those is Bloodshot Records, and their latest artist is Andrew Sa. Sa's latest single is "Lavender Cowboy," a tribute to his late friend and mentor Patrick Haggerty. Haggerty was an icon of gay country with his band Lavender Cowboy. The song "Lavender Cowboy" is a great alt-country track that leans into the more traditionally country side of the genre. The song is a great one, with a tender, heartfelt sound. It's melancholy while also being celebratory. If you know and like the artists that Bloodshot Records puts out, you're going to love Andrew Sa. This is a great single from an artist we're looking forward to hearing more from. Andrew Sa says of his new single: "I was chasing that elusive happy/sad bop, writing most of the song on my tenor guitar in a hotel room near Seattle, WA following Patrick’s Celebration...
