Artist : Allo Darlin' Album : Bright Nights Quick Thoughts : We're big fans of Allo Darlin' here, and the sort of delicate, twee-adjacent sensibility takes flight here in what might be their best album yet. "My Love Will Bring You Home" is perfect, "Northern Waters" a gorgeous listen as well, and the whole thing feels like a nice blanket on a chilly summer night. Gorgeous record, make time for it. Songs of Note : "Tricky Questions," "My Love Will Bring You Home," "Northern Waters," "Bright Nights" Artist : The Midnight Papers Album : The Midnight Papers Quick Thoughts : The Midnight Papers absolutely slot themselves in the garage / grunge tradition, with crunchy guitars and a punk rock attitude that's infused throughout the record. The record also closes with a version of "I Wanna Be Your Dog," and covering The Stooges is such a perfect endcap to this album that I really fell for this ban...

DJ Haram featuring Bbymutha, SHA RAY, & August Fanon - "Fishnets"

Photo by Sultana Garritano Brooklyn's DJ Haram has a new single out that shows off her trademark boom bap sprinkled with Middle Eastern instrumentation sound. "Fishnets" features verses from Bbymutha, SHA RAY, and August Fanon, and has an intense and almost menacing vibe, despite being an absolute banger of a track. It's hypnotic and immediately grabs your attention, and if you're unfamiliar with the trio of rappers on the song, you're sure to start pulling up their bodies of work. "Fishnets" is one of those songs that just feels cool and makes you need to hear more from all of the artists involved.  DJ Haram says of her latest single: "‘Fishnets’ is for the eclectic bad bitches. The people united will never be defeated." You can listen to "Fishnets" below. Beside Myself is due out July 18 on Hyperdub, and is available for pre-order here . It has an impossible to resist beat, despite not sounding anything like what I typically associate with modern electronic dance music. It also doesn't sound like the electronica or techno from my brief club days in the 90's. This is a new brand of dance music (for me at least). Plus, "Voyeur" sounds dark. There is a sense of foreboding and danger ingrained in the song. It's kind of like if you could dance to the It Follows  soundtrack, but with maybe less synth. DJ Haram describes her new single as: “the voices in my head screaming wordlessly while I’m at the center of a mosh pit on research chemicals. Someone is like — ‘you're gonna make it boo, promise, just wait it out’ — but the future doe...
