Benny the Butcher - "Summer 25"

Image
Last August, Buffalo, NY based rapper Benny the Butcher released Summertime Butch , and this year sees the follow up, Summertime Butch 2. The first single from the upcoming album is "Summer 25," which might be a perfect summer hip hop single for 2025. The song still has the laid back vibe needed in a song about the summer, but with an edge to it that fits this year. It's chill while acknowledging that things could go wrong at any point. Plus, it features a sample from Jonathan Richman's "That Summer Feeling," which is the first time I've ever noticed a Jonathan Richman sample in a hip hop song. You can watch the video for "Summer 25" below. Summertime Butch 2  is due out July 16 (716 is the area code for Buffalo). Che Noir featuring Benny the Butcher - "Wash the Dishes"

Image
Photo via Facebook Two of my favorite MCs I've discovered in the past year have been Che Noir and Benny the Butcher, so I'm obviously going to be thrilled by Che Noir's latest single since it features Benny the Butcher. The two Buffalo based hip hop artists team up on "Wash the Dishes." The song has this amazing vibe that feels like a classic 80's song mixed with early Wu-Tang Clan while still sounding like the best style of modern hip hop. Che Noir and Benny the Butcher may be classic rappers, but "Wash the Dishes" is hardly a throwback jam. Let's hope these two work together as much as humanly possible. Che Noir says of her new collaborative song: “I remember when I heard the beat, and did my verse I knew Benny would be a perfect fit for this. Benny pulled up to the studio I was recording at in Rochester, we broke bread and 'Washed The Dishes.'” You can listen to "Wash the Dishes" below. Che Noir's upcoming album, The Last...

Benny the Butcher - "Welcome to the States"

Image
We all know the tragedy that took place in a Tops Supermarket on May 14 in Buffalo. The city's own Benny the Butcher has released a new single to help raise money for the Buffalo 5-14 Survivors Fund. Benny the Butcher has a unique perspective of travelling internationally as a performer and shopping at the supermarket the shooting took place in. It feels weird discussing a song when the purpose of the song is such a serious matter and it exists for tragedy, but it is one of the best charity singles we've heard. This is an important song, and I hope radio stations have the guts to give this the airtime it truly deserves. You can watch the video for "Welcome to the States" below. You can purchase a limited edition "Pray for Buffalo" t-shirt with 100% of the profits going to the Buffalo 5-14 Survivors Fund here . Conway the Machne with Benny the Butcher and Westside Gunn - "John Woo Flick"

Image
Photo via Facebook I hate comparing every hip hop song I like to the 90's and Wu-Tang Clan in particular, but if a song is called "John Woo Flick" it's kind of hard not to. The latest from Conway the Machine features Benny the Butcher and Westside Gunn, and it features the same kind of sparse kung fu influenced production we heard on Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). This is just the kind of classic old school hip hop we absolutely love here at If It's Too Loud... that we wish we heard more of. "John Woo Flick" is that slow kind of rap song that seems to pace around in your head with just the slightest trace of menacing undertones. That being said, this is a fun song and a killer collaboration. You can watch the video for "John Woo Flick" below. God Don't Make Mistakes is due out February 25 on Shady/Interscope Records. Benny the Butcher - "Mr. Pyrex Man"

Image
Photo via Facebook The latest song from Benny the Butcher reminds me of a combination of two contrasting 90's hip hop styles. Like with most modern hip hop that has a slight throwback feel, "Mr. Pyrex Man" gives me some Wu-Tang Clan vibes. It has that sparse feel with instrumentation that wasn't associated with hip hop previously. In the case of this song, it sounds almost like wind chimes, but wind chimes with a menace. Yes, that may sound bizarre, but it fits. Somehow, Benny the Butcher is also giving me the feel of Puff Daddy's smooth and crossover hit production. There aren't many rappers that can remind you of Wu-Tang and Puff Daddy, but Benny the Butcher pulls it off. You can watch the video for "Mr. Pyrex Man" below. The song will be available on Black Soprano Family's compilation Long Live DJ Shay  which is due out in early 2022. It's currently available as a single here . Skyzoo & Pete Rock featuring Westside Gunn, Conway, Benny The Butcher and Elzhi - "Eastern Conference All-Stars"

Image
The latest single from the collaborative album from Skyzoo and Pete Rock might be the most satisfying throwback of all time. It's a brand new song, but it just feels like 1990. "Eastern Conference All-Stars" is the ultimate laid back posse cut. It obviously features Skyzoo, but also verses by Westside Gunn, Conway, Benny The Butcher, and Elzhi. These kind of songs dominated most of the hip hop I listened to in high school, and "Eastern Conference All-Stars" pushes my nostalgia button perfectly. Skyzoo says about the song: “When putting together Retropolitan, one of the first ideas I had was to put together the ultimate posse cut, with everyone who’s on the record being who I always had in mind.  Something in the vein of DMX’s ‘Ni**az Done Started Something, JAY-Z’s Reservoir Dogs, LL's 4,3,2,1, etc.  I broke the idea down to Pete, and he immediately played this beat. Pete knew exactly what would work for us to go bar crazy. When you put five top-tier lyr...
