Some interesting one-off singles and guest spots have bridged the gap, but this new full-length is perhaps their most accessible in some time. There are a lot of layers to this one while also providing a number of memorable tracks as well. Glad they're back, check it out. Cherry Glazerr was one of my earliest favorites this year, with the only song I really and truly kept on repeat for much of the year in “Wasted Nun.” What made this better than their previous efforts? I couldn’t tell you for sure, but there was a polish here that was lacking before, the songwriting (which has always been the strength of this act) felt tighter, the themes more pronounced. I truly couldn’t get enough of this. Loud and unapologetic without lacking something to say, it didn’t wear out its welcome for me and still hasn’t. I’m very glad this album exists, and I think CG has become one of my favorite current acts in the process. Songs of note: “Wasted Nun,” “Ohio,” “Stupid Fish”

Another great week! Albums of the Week : Artist : Cherry Glazerr Album : Stuffed & Ready Quick Description : Highly-anticipated third album from the alt/indie act. Why You Should Listen : This should be the breakthrough we're waiting for. Overall Thoughts : If it wasn’t clear from the videos and the prerelease singles, this may be the album that is designed to propel CG into stardom. They’ve deserved it for some time now, with a lot of really great songs under their belt up to this point, but “Wasted Nun” ( which I’m still obsessed with ) was a shot across the bow, and the album doesn’t let up off the gas. “That’s Not My Real Life” is a real highlight, and album cuts feel more polished while still retaining the flair that made CG so appealing to start. Do not sleep on this – not only is there plenty of room on the bandwagon, but I have a feeling we will be hearing a lot about CG in 2019. Recommendation : A best of the week, and a must-listen. 2019 sounds like a good time to resurrect an old series here, Current Obsessions, where we wax semi-poetic about the stuff that's really nailing it for us. Today, "Wasted Nun" by Cherry Glazerr. On one hand, while I've been a fan of Cherry Glazerr since their early EPs, I have never quite put them in the same box with Tancred, Charly Bliss, and the like with the whole alt-rock revival thing we saw a few years ago. With that said, Apocalypstick was an album of the week for me when it came out and this new song? Well, wow - this song is incredible. The song does not waste any time getting to the point, with a heavier sound and some crunchy guitars getting right into it. The chorus is less melodic and more pleading, with a style that I yelled right along with in the car yesterday afternoon - even though I'm not a wasted girl, I certainly feel like I'm no fun sometimes, and one has to wonder where this song is coming from specifically. Lots to cover this week. Album of the Week : Artist : Cherry Glazerr Album : Apocalypstick Quick Description : Great, hooky alt-rock. Why You Should Listen : Best release this week and will scratch that traditional alternative rock itch. Overall Thoughts : I fell in love with this band thanks to "Had Ten Dollaz" from a few years ago. The new album builds on their sound while showing a lot of musical improvements throughout, and there's a good deal of fun to go along with it, too. "Nurse Rached" is a highlight, but their crazy " Nuclear Bomb " video shows where they're coming from. Overall? Best of the week, for sure. Recommendation : A must listen. Artist : Foxygen Album : Follow the Leader Quick Description : Retro rock band with another fun, puzzling effort. Why You Should Listen : Foxygen definitely keeps me on my toes.
