"Play Acting Virtue" is a combination of metal and punk. It's a fast and loud song that just plows straight through its three minute plus length. As soon as the opening feedback starts blaring, and the quiet but tense guitar starts playing, you're just waiting for the song to burst open. And it does. "Play Acting Virtue" is like Converge for people who want it to be a little more punk. It's merging hardcore with louder indie acts like Metz. Zach Gehring (vocals/guitar) says of the new song: "This song was one of the earlier ones written for Privation. Photo by Adam Rogers There's been a recent movement towards dark folk, and we're here for it. The latest band we've found fitting that genre is Tale of Two. Consisting of Alfie Jackson (formerly of Holloways) and Gemma Rogers, the duo have recently released "Demons." "Demons" is a theatrical folk song with both members harmonizing for lead vocals throughout the song. There's definitely a cabaret element to it, and if I was going to compare this to anyone, I'd call it a less campy Charming Disaster. It's definitely a bigger song than you would expect to come from a folk duo with added elements of vaudeville.  According to a press release, " This song is about how we strive through life believing the lies fed to us by the powers that be and how we rage against the tide that tries to hold us in our place. Sisters Chelsea and Justine Brown make up the core of Summer Twins. The desire to form a band came before actually forming a band, and in October they have their sophomore album due out. "Demons" reminds me of the retro girl groups that seem to come out every few years, like The Pipettes or Those Darlins'. "Demons" comes across as a more polished version of that, throwing back to 50s sock hop music and 60s garage rock. And then the guitar comes in, and it's just a dirty noise rock blast. While Summer Twins might look back at the past, they're not a retro act at all. It's a perfect mixture of retro and today.
