Dilemma Rose & The Wailin' Milfs - MILFOLOGY

Image
I first discovered Dilemma Rose & The Wailin' Milfs almost exactly a year ago at a show at Lynch Family Skatepark in Cambridge. I loved their punk, metal, and New Wave Sound, and how as noisy and loud as it was, that it still had this oddly sugarcoated sound to it. Now they're back with a nine song album, MILFOLOGY. The nine songs range from three seconds to four and a half minutes. The songs swing wildly between noisy, screamy, and loud to pure pop, sometimes within the same song. A perfect example of that is "luv that 4 u," which starts off as an unhinged noise punk ? and the Mysterians and then swings into 60's girl group/doo wop and then back again. "PEE AFTER SEX" kind of sounds like early Red Hot Chili Peppers mixed with Sonic Youth and Le Tigre, but much, much better than that sounds. And it includes a killer flute solo. MILFOLOGY also includes their cover of Talking Heads' "Psycho Killer," which was an absolute highlight at last...

Friday Freebie: Dilemma Rose n the Wailin' Milfs - milf machine

Image
After being blown away by Dilemma Rose n the Walin' Milfs last Saturday, I decided to search online for any information on them. There isn't a whole lot online (although searching anything involving the word "Milf" gets some NS4W results, so beware!), but I did find a Bandcamp page. That includes an EP released last Halloween, milf machine. The EP is three songs and just over five minutes in length. If you're intrigued by the thought of a punk/metal/New Wave mash up, you're going to be delighted by milf machine. It appears that Dilemma Rose n the Wailin' Milfs have added keyboards since this EP was released, so it's a little less New Wave than their live show was. But these three songs are completely glorious trainwrecks bouncing between happy bubblegum to absolute car crashes of noise at a maddeningly fast rate. If that sounds like your thing, you're gonna love this. You can listen to "the bitch song" below. milf machine  is available fo...

Live Shows: Tysk Tysk Task, Kayla Blackburn, The Crawlies, and Dilemma Rose n' the Wailin' Milfs, Lynch Family Skate Park, Cambridge, MA 7/16/22

Tysk Tysk Task (Photo by Ken Sears) I wasn't expecting to write about this show. It was a free outdoor show at a skate park with a bunch of newer bands I had never heard of. I went to get my Tysk Tysk Task fix and check out a band or two before heading over to the House of Blues to see The Circle Jerks. It turns out I had much more fun at this show and stayed much longer than I expected to. (Apologies to the bands that played that I missed!) Sometimes a little punk show under a highway overpass is more fun than a giant one in a corporate chain club. The first band I saw was Tysk Tysk Task. I'm always amazed at how much they've changed their sound as a duo with Samantha Hartsel and Danni Gannon while still keeping what made me first love their music intact. An outdoor show powered by a gas generator is going to have some sound issues, but the extra fuzz fit Tysk Tysk Task perfectly. Their "woodland slumber grunge" was especially perfect outdoors, and they still pla...
