The Weather Station - "Mirror"

Image
Photo by Brendan George Ko No one quite makes music like The Weather Station, the musical project of Tamara Lindeman. Her latest single, "Mirror," has a singer-songwriter goes slightly dance music with some jazz influences. There's a lot going on in this song, but it's still a laid back and incredibly captivating song. It's the type of song that could almost be used as background music but will soon demand all of your attention and focus. The more attention you pay to "Mirror," the more it will reward you. The Weather Station wanders right up to the edge of the mainstream here, but decides it's more fun and interesting not to cross the line. This one is reminding me of Tori Amos' late 90's releases. Tamara Lindeman says of her latest single: “I wanted the song to warp and disintegrate; to come in and out of being like the imaginary scaffold that holds up a fantasy or cognitive dissonance. In the end, the band grows garbled and comes apart, gi...

TIFFY - "Mirror"

Image
Photo by Cam Cavagnaro Boston's TIFFY is back with more "fuzz tinged dream rock!" "Mirror" is the artist's latest single, and is a dreamy indie rock song just dripping with pop. The song seems to cycle through styles, never quite letting you feel comfortable with just one song while keeping the vibe constant throughout. It's starts off as a fun pop rock track, and then adds in a surf rock and doo wop sound, punk pops in at one point, and some 80's rock guitars make an appearance before being replaced by a more indie rock sound. "Mirror" is a great song that is complicated enough for the music snobs and catchy enough for more pop focused fans. Tiffany Sammy (aka TIFFY) says of her latest single: " The song is about the comfortability people feel maintaining the status quo. " You can watch the video for "Mirror" below.  2 is due out August 2. For more on TIFFY, check out the artist on Instagram and Facebook .

Century Egg - "Mirror"

Image
Photo via Century Egg We've been really digging the Mandopop of Nova Scotia's Century Egg, despite not really understanding what defines that genre. Their latest single is exactly what we love about them. It's punk-ish with a hard pop side that doesn't cross into pop punk at all. It has that early alternative edge and DIY sound and feel that you would get with a band like Beat Happening, but more modern and far more pop tinged. "Mirror" is filled with grungy guitars, driving drum beats, and harmonized vocals throughout. It's a fun, uplifting song despite the subject matter. According to the band, "Mirror" is "...  about the struggle of depression and how dark things can feel even when there are bright sides ," which I think we can all relate to after the past almost two years... and more. You can listen to "Mirror" below. The song is currently available as a single via Forward Music Group, and can be downloaded over at Bandca...
