If It's Too Loud...

I was truly bummed out I had to miss last year's Snowgaze Fest, with it's wonderfully diverse line-up of shoegaze and shoegaze adjacent bands playing Deep Cuts in Medford. This year saw an equally diverse line-up, and I couldn't resist Friday night which featured Exit 18, Little Oso, Tysk Tysk Task, and Literally/Nobody! Literally/Nobody opened up the night, and I was excited to see them for the first time. We first discovered them back in May, and were won over by their "shoegaze, dream pop and post-hardcore" sound. That sound worked out even better live, and I was blown away by their noisy and poppy sound. I had described their EP as Jawbreaker meets Slowdive, and I'm doubling down on that one for their live show. The songs were fuzzy and a little discordant, while being some of the catchiest ones of the night. Next up was Tysk Tysk Task. Boston's literally/nobody released their debut EP earlier this month, and you're going to want to check this one out. Candle is a six song release for the self-described "shoegaze/dream pop/post-hardcore band," and it combines all of those genres, plus a few others. The opener, "Crystal Capsules," is an absolute powerhouse of a song, combining classic shoegaze with classic emo. (Think Slowdive meets Jawbreaker.) From there, "In Reverse" has a more upbeat and bouncy feel, while "Bones" has a disjointed, washed out post-punk sound. "Leaves In Heaven" is a beautiful that makes me think of a more stripped down version of The Cure. For a band that released their first single in March, literally/nobody are one that we're all going to want to keep an eye on. You can listen to Candle  below. The EP is available now on Bandcamp. Photo by Emma Cotton literally/nobody is a Boston four piece that, according to their press release, "... interweaves shoegaze, dream-pop and post-hardcore." Their latest single, "in reverse," is as jangly as it is buzzy. It's a poppy and noisy track that demands that a listener at least bop around a little bit throughout it's entire three and a half minute length. Despite having an intimate indie feel, the song also feels like an epic in scope, making it both twee and gigantic. I believe "in reverse" is literally/nobody's debut single, and if so, this is an amazing introduction to a band we can't wait to hear more from.
