Blues Lawyer - "Nowhere to Go"

Image
As with their previous single, "Chance Encounter," if you're a fan of 90's indie but mainstream leaning indie rock like The Lemonheads and Teenage Fanclub, chances are you're going to dig "Nowhere to Go." The latest from the Oakland based band has a little bit more of an edge to it while still being fun and not punk, so it's more akin to Teenage Fanclub than The Lemonheads. It's an upbeat sounding jangly indie rock song with one of the better 90's guitar solos recorded this century. It does stop a bit abruptly just after two minutes, but if our only critique is that we wanted more, that's hardly a bad thing. Guitarist/vocalist Rob I. Miller says of the new song: "This is a song about the sort of millennial malaise I've experienced as a result of being on social media. There were days during  lockdown where I was either depressed because I was doom scrolling or doom scrolling because I was depressed. Then I'd post something du...

Blues Lawyer - "Chance Encounter"

Image
Oakland's Blues Lawyer have a very specific 90's throwback sound. Their latest single, "Chance Encounter," lies in that time period between heavier grunge bands like Nirvana and Soundgarden but before the alternative rock airwaves were overtaken by more pop focused bands like Spin Doctors and Gin Blossoms. "Chance Encounter" is along the lines of Teenage Fanclub or The Lemonheads. Blues Lawyer still have that great indie rock edge, but the song is insanely poppy at the same time. It's fuzzy guitars and killer harmonies between Rob I. Miller and Elyse Schrock. This one is a ton of fun while still maintaining an indie rock edge. You can watch the video for "Chance Encounter" below. All in Good Time is due out February 17 on Dark Entries. The album can be pre-ordered through Bandcamp . Flesh World - "Into the Shroud"

Image
Photo by Roxanne Clifford The new song from Flesh World is punk, but not quite a style of punk we've seen before. "Into the Shroud" is not really hard or heavy. Instead, it combines elements of some of the most popular retro genres to borrow from currently. It has the quirky, slightly off beats of post punk, plus the drone and monotone style of shoegaze, and then the jangle of dream pop. That doesn't exactly sound like a blend that would make for punk, but it somehow mixes together just that way. Not to mention that the entire thing reeks of England, but the band resides in California. You can watch the video for "Into the Shroud" below. It might just be me, but the video seems very Information Society. The new album from Flesh World, also called Into the Shroud , will be out September 8 on Dark Entries Records. It can be pre-ordered here . For more on Flesh World, check them out on Facebook .
