Like previous singles "Stealin'" and "Whiskey Queen," this one lands right square in the middle of punk and metal with absolutely no pretense. The song is fast and loud and just about perfect. Boston can be a bit of a hipster enclave at times (which we admit to being guilty of), and sometimes you just want a song that fucking rocks. Casket Rats are the perfect band to provide that. Their latest single, "Stealin'," is a gritty straight up rocker. This is the kind of music that Guns 'n Roses would make if they had leaned into their punk roots a bit more. It's that kind of sound that blends metal and punk into a perfect hybrid, and sounds like it could have been made any time in the past fifty years. Their latest single, "Whiskey Queen," sounds exactly what a song called "Whiskey Queen" should sound like. It's a little bit punk, a little bit metal, and all hard rock. It's loud and driven guitar rock that seems to be living in a world that encompasses the best of 70's punk, 80's thrash, and 90's rock and roll bands like Supersuckers that no one quite knew what to do with. The guitars thrash like you demand that they do, and Keith Bennett seems to be channeling both Lemmy Kilmister and Joey Belladonna. As small venues are disappearing in and around Boston, craft breweries are starting to fill that void and booking shows with local and touring artists.
