Garrett Vandermolen - "He Seems to Think That He's a King"

Image
Based on the title and the artwork for Garrett Vandermolen's (Speedfossil) latest single, you already know if you'll like it or not. "He Seems to Think That He's a King" might be the most chill and lovely protest song to come out of everything going on right now. It's a singer-songwriter track that is lush and surprisingly beautiful, especially considering the subject matter. If it was on in the background and you weren't paying attention, you'd most likely think it was a love song or a song about literally anything but the current political climate. Vandermolen pulled off something great and impressive with "He Seems to Think That He's a King." Garrett Vandermolen says of his new single: “I wanted to get this song out into the world quickly, and I just got really lucky that I had some collaborators available to work with me who really wanted to play on this track and be a part of it.   I’m super grateful to my son, McCoy, for arranging a...

Speedfossil - "Silver Lining"

Image
If you get the chance to record in Abbey Road Studios, you have to take it, right? Boston's Speedfossil recently toured in England and came back with a single recorded at the legendary studio. "Silver Lining" definitely has a little bit of that 1960's Beatles-esque sound, but it's more mid-90's Boston post-grunge alt-rock that it will remind you of. "Silver Lining" sounds like when bands like Gigolo Aunts and Letters to Cleo had Boston declared as the "next Seattle," and were pop in the way the Ramones and Cheap Trick were pop, although we never would have agreed with that back then. "Silver Lining" is a seriously great garage pop/rock track that is catchier than it has any right to be. You can listen to "Silver Lining" below. The single is available now via Bandcamp . Speedfossil featuring Linda Pardee - "Sweetheart"

Image
We have a soft spot for the Boston power pop/garage rock scene, so of course we're going to be into Speedfossil. Their latest single, "Sweetheart," features Linda Pardee of The Chelsea Curve and it's just an ultra cheery power pop song. While a lot of power pop tends to lean into the vintage sound of the 1970's glory days or the mid 90's revival, "Sweetheart" doesn't really sound like a throwback song. It has this interesting timeless quality, sounding both classic and modern. It's also just a fun rock and roll song, as any song called "Sweetheart" should be. You can watch the video for "Sweetheart" below. ROOM WITH A VU, Vol. 1 is due out April 12 on The Sound Cove, and is available for pre-order via Bandcamp .
