Snapped Ankles - "Smart World"

Image
Photo by Louise Mason Snapped Ankles continue to be one of the more unique and interesting bands out there today. Their latest single, "Smart World," fits perfectly in with their trademark bizarro dance music sound. The song has a certain post-punk goes electronic dance vibe to it, and sounds both retro and futuristic at the same time. According to the press release, "The track explores the rise of AI in music via an imagined conversation between between Brian Eno and the late Conny Plank." In this case, Eno is pro AI and Plank is skeptical. As with any Snapped Ankles track, "Smart World" is going to inspire the best and most awkward furious dancing the listener can muster. Frontman Austin says of the band's latest single: “ I figured Conny’s the one who’ll break first, and go ‘No, you’ve got to go the hard way around .'  Eno will be more like, ‘Fuck yeah, let’s go! Let’s put our brains in a tub & post it to Mars! ’” You can watch the video for...

Snapped Ankles - "Pay the Rent"

Image
Photo by Louise Mason Snapped Ankles are most certainly not your average band. The Kent based group just released a brand new single that is nearly impossible to describe, which fits Snapped Ankles perfectly. "Pay the Rent" is an electronic track that sounds more organic than dance music typically does. This is certainly not your standard dance track, even factoring the organic quality. The vocals are kind of dark wave, while the music almost sounds like a 90's electronica artist trying to discover their preferred tempo. At times it's hyper, at others it's even more hyper. Even if Snapped Ankles don't sound like your style of music, I implore you to give them a listen. You may end up surprising yourself with how much you end up loving this one. You can watch the video for "Pay the Rent" below. Hard Times Furious Dancing is due out March 28 and is available for pre-order here . For more on Snapped Ankles, check out the artist's website . Snapped Ankles - "Raoul"

Image
It's been almost three years since I saw Snapped Ankles at Crystal Ballroom, so we're thrilled to have new music from them. The London based band is hard to describe, and so is their new single. "Raoul" isn't even remotely close to the hardcore sound I would expect based on the band's name. Instead, it's an electronic based version of post-punk. It's a synth heavy track that is filled with controlled chaos. At the Crystal Ballroom show, the music was perfect for awkward dancing, and this is reflected in "Raoul." According to the press release for the song, it's "...m a feverish conversation about geopolitics between unreliable narrators over buzzing synths and howling dogs". Y ou'll know from that if you're going to want to listen. And if you do, prepare to be blown away by Snapped Ankles. You can watch the video for "Raoul" below. Hard Times Furious Dancing is set for release on March 28 on The Leaf Label, and...

Live Shows: Snapped Ankles, Gloin, and Muzzins, Crystal Ballroom at Somerville Theater, Somerville, MA 3/12/22

Crystal Ballroom is a fairly new venue that opened up within the Somerville Theater that seems to be more of a performance space than a live music venue. They've hosted concerts, but also burlesque and other performances. Based on what has been booked there, the promoters seem more concerned with art and quality than just getting a Sublime cover band once a month to sell the place out. This was very apparent on Saturday with the triple bill of Snapped Ankles, Gloin, and Muzzins. We've written about Muzzins before, and they were the main reason I was in attendance for this show. Despite having only two songs out, the band had a pretty die hard fanbase show up for being a brand new band. The three piece led by Rayna Jhaveri were a perfect fit to open this triple bill of oddball bands, with their own sound taking pieces of alt-rock, electronic, funk, hip hop, jazz, and punk into one cohesive sound. Their stage presence belied their relative newness, and they played like a band tha...
