Swapmeet - "Halfway"

Photo by David Milan Kelly It's been a little while since we brought you a new song from Australia's Swapmeet. That's our mistake, which we're rectifying by bringing you their latest, "Halfway." While "I Know!" had some strong roots in 90's indie rock, "Halfway" sounds fully modern. It's a delightfully laid back version of dream pop that has a surprising intensity. There are some barely there hints of country twang, and everything blends together gorgeously. It's more than a little twee, and then at just about the midway point, the song takes a sudden turn into something more upbeat and rocking. The transition somehow keeps the poppy aspect of the song intact, and will make you love Swapmeet even more. Swapmeet - "I Know!"

Photo by Olive Rush Australia's Swapmeet have just signed to Winspear and have released a brand new single. "I Know!" is a perfect slice of jangle pop, complete with fuzzy guitars and vocals from Venus O'Broin. The song is wonderfully catchy and oddly hypnotic, with some roots in the indie rock of the 90's without sounding like a throwback. There seem to be a lot of 90's inspired indie rockers coming out of Australia lately, but Swapmeet have found a way to stand out with a song as great as "I Know!" The refrain of "I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know, I know" might be too infectious. Plus, there's something about the song that just feels cool, and isn't that what we truly want in a rock song?
