Artist : Ethel Cain Album : Willoughby Tucker, I'll Always Love You Quick Thoughts : Putting aside any "Ethel Cain Discourse," this is the second record of theirs in a trilogy of conceptual albums, and this is just a glorious slowcore treatise that stuck with me like few albums have of late. There are several outstanding themes throughout, and the interplay between "Nettles" (a brilliant piece of songwriting) and the closing ambient-lite "Radio Towers" is just gorgeous. Do not miss this one. Songs of Note : "Fuck Me Eyes," "Waco, Texas," "Radio Towers," "Nettles" Artist : Teethe Album : Magic of the Sale Quick Thoughts : I did not know Teethe prior to this week, but I have to love a band that wears its influences proudly (and in some cases, like "Iron Wine," overtly so). This is a great alt-indie record with a lot going for it and deserves to find a lot of ears and a lot of new fans. A great...

Teethe - "Holy Water"

Image
Photo by Wes Ellis Teethe, the Texas based Southern slowcore band, is back with a new single. "Holy Water" is filled with a giant noise that is almost shoegaze but not quite. It maneuvers between loud and quiet expertly, with the more quiet parts going into a more pop category than you would expect. And then the wall of noise comes in, threatening to obliterate everything in its path. The only thing stopping it is Madeline Dowd's vocals, which keep a sense of pop going throughout the song. "Holy Water" cycles what could have been four separate songs during its three and a half minutes, but Teethe keep everything sounding like a cohesive song that flows together perfectly. Plus, the song features pedal steel from Xandy Chelmis of Wednesday and MJ Lenderman.  You can watch the video for "Holy Water" below. Magic of the Sale is due out August 8 on Winspear. Teethe - "Magic of the Sale"

Image
Photo by Wes Ellis Hailing from Texas, Teethe are a slowcore band you're going to want to know about. Their latest single, "Magic of the Sale," is a stunningly gorgeous track that maintains just enough of an edge to keep things interesting. The song is simply mesmerizing and lush, drawing a listener in with a steady wall of gentle sound. As "Magic of the State" washes over you, it's going to be quite easy to be lulled into a near state of hypnosis. This is the type of song you're going to want to completely engulf you as you get completely swept up in it.  Teethe say of their latest single: “‘Magic Of The Sale’ is about the endurance of pain and what you would sacrifice to relieve it. It’s facing judgment for how we process the pain in our lives and the turmoil that follows."  You can watch the video for "Magic of the Sale" below. Magic of the Sale , the album, is due out August 8 on Winspear, and is available for pre-order here . For more...
