Saigon & Fredro featuring Kool G Rap - "Make Money"

Image
Saigon & Fredro's collaborative album meant as a tribute to the golden age of hip hop (1986 to 1996) just released a new chapter with "Make Money." The song features Kool G Rap, the legendary MC who might be the most underrated of all hip hop legends. As with the other songs we've already heard from The Jordan Era , "Make Money" sounds like it could have come straight from that time period. This is just pure old school hip hop, and it's a perfect tribute to my personal favorite era of rap. This one may sound a little more modern than their previous singles, but Saigon and Fredro have nailed the sound of The Jordan Era perfectly. Saigon says of his latest single: “G Rap and I have a long-standing artistic history and I’m beyond impressed how he has been this dope, for this long. He is my favorite rapper, so it's always a blessing to rap alongside him.  He doesn’t miss a step.”  You can listen to "Make Money" below. The Jordan Era is due ...

Saigon & Fredro featuring Grand Puba - "Think Twice"

Image
Saigon and Fredro have been working on their tribute to the golden age of hip hop, and they brought in a heavy hitter for their latest single. Grand Puba joins the duo on "Think Twice," and if you love early 90's hip hop, this song will be a true delight. Besides just being a great solo artist, Grand Puba was a member of Brand Nubian, and "Think Twice" has that early 90's alternative hip hop sound. This legitimately sounds like a forgotten song from a hip hop heavy soundtrack from my high school days, so I'm in old school heaven on this track.  Saigon says of his latest single: “Growing up, Brand Nubian was one of my favorite groups, and Grand Puba as a solo artist shaped and molded my fashion sense at that time, and he is my favorite artist of all time. Grand Puba has never gotten his due respect.  Before Kanye, it was Puba who made the rugby with the knapsack look cool.  He also always made sure there was some kind of a positive message in his music.  ...

Saigon and Fredro featuring Pete Rock - "Get Loose"

Image
Saigon and Fredro have the upcoming The Jordan Era project, which is a love letter to hip hop during 1986 to 1996. For their latest single, "Get Loose," they enlisted hip hop legend Pete Rock. Pete Rock doesn't do many verses these days, so any time he shows up on a song it is automatically a huge deal. Plus, "Get Loose" sounds like it was released in the early 90's. It's going to remind you of classic artists like A Tribe Called Quest and Eric B & Rakim. It's nostalgic for my personal favorite period of hip hop, and they even teamed with one of the most celebrated (yet still somehow underrated) MCs of the period. Saigon says of the new single: “I’ve always thought Pete was a dope rapper since 'The Creator,' so I took the opportunity to get him to step away from behind the boards; where he is most comfortable, and 'Get Loose' with me. With all of the negativity in Hip-Hop, and the world, I just wanted to create something fun with ...

Saigon and Fredo featuring Grandmaster Caz - "Lyrical Genius"

Image
For their upcoming collaborative album, Brooklyn rapper Saigon and Swedish producer Fredo wanted to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of hip hop, specifically "the Jordan era" of 1986 to 1996." For their new single, "Lyrical Genius," they enlisted the legendary MC Grandmaster Caz. This song certainly doesn't sound like anything from this century. "Lyrical Genius" is purely old school, and reminds me a lot of vintage Def Jam or Delicious Vinyl releases. This is the best style of throwback song, and sounds like it's from both the 80's and 90's in its production. Saigon and Fredo have given us a perfect way to prepare for your weekend. Saigon talks about the upcoming album and collaboration with Grandmaster Caz: “I made  The Jordan Era  to celebrate the reason I am the man I am today.  I remember my mother listening to the Cold Crush Brothers, whose main lyricist was a guy named Grandmaster Caz. Growing up, I idolized Big Daddy Kane.  Wh...
