The Queers Cover The Monkees

Image
Photo by Michael Oswald New Hampshire punk legends The Queers have long worn their love of classic oldies on their sleeves. Joe Queer and crew have covered The Beach Boys, Tommy James and the Shondells, The Hollies, etc. for years, plus a lot of their originals have that classic sound. Somehow, they've never released an entire album of covers, but that will change next month. The first single off that album is a cover of The Monkees' "Valleri." It's not a song I knew just by name. Instead of the typical bubblegum pop Monkees song, "Valleri" is much more psychedelic, presumably from The Monkees' more serious period. The Queers take most of the psychedelia out of the song (most, but definitely not all) and strip it down into a crusty pop punk anthem. You know... they make it sound like The Queers. You can listen to The Queers' take on "Valleri" below. Reverberation  is due out September 24 on Cleopatra Records. It will also feature covers...

The Queers - "Nightmare to Deal With"

Image
Photo via Facebook Just last week I brought you the latest single from New Hampshire pop punk lifers The Queers and talked about the two types of Queers songs: Loud, fast, aggressive punk and songs that are incredibly sugary sweet pop songs. Apparently I forgot about the third kind: Songs that are bratty punk songs that sound like sugary sweet love songs. "Nightmare to Deal With," the band's latest single, reminded me of the third kind. On the surface it's an upbeat, happy love song. But, it is called "Nightmare to Deal With," and what kind of pure love song would that be? It's a song that features Joe Queer complaining about how much of a nightmare his lady friend is, but also declares that he's "... not going anywhere." You can listen to "Nightmare to Deal With" below. Save the World, the upcoming album from The Queers, is due out November 30 on All Star Records. You can pre-order a copy here . The Queers - "Bubblegum Girl"

Image
Photo via Facebook The Queers have been wearing their Ramones fandom on their sleeves for almost forty years now. Their latest single, "Bubblegum Girl," continues that legacy. The new song sounds like the sweeter, more pop side of the Ramones. This is the side that loves The Beach Boys more than anything else. The Queers tend to make two kinds of songs: Either loud, fast, aggressive punk or songs that are so pop and upbeat that they can barely be considered even pop punk. "Bubblegum Girl" is the latter, and it's one of the finest examples of that sound. You can listen to "Bubblegum Girl" below. The upcoming album from The Queers will be out on All Star Records. Expect an official album announcement and pre-sale in the next few weeks. For more on The Queers, check out their Facebook .
